Meet the Team
Premiere of the game is getting closer with every day and we know, that you have a lot of questions about This War of Mine.

That's why we've decided to give you this unique opportunity to ask about things you've always wanted to know and receive answers directly from some of the people, who work on the game.

One of the creators of the engine that stands behind all of 11 bit's games. He supervises all the work that requires coding (and believe us, there’s a lot of that!) and controls the further development of tech. As this War of Mine is totally different from our other games, we needed lots of new tools to make the game the way we want it made.

As a design director, Michał is responsible for the final idea behind the game. That includes: what players can do, what’s the aim of their actions and how it can be achieved – those are all ideas, which once written on a paper, are later transferred to the gameplay. He invents what’s the game is all about – that’s his work in one sentence.

The AI handles the behaviour of all characters not controlled by the player. It takes hundreds of hours to ensure that all people you meet in the game behave the way they should. They interact with you and respond to your actions just like real civilians during real conflicts.

Przemek is responsible for the way the game looks. The Environment, characters, and animations – everything has to share the same common idea, and be a part of a bigger vision. We knew from the beginning that This War of Mine couldn't look like any other game out there. Przemek is responsible for bring this idea to life.

Assets are nothing without proper tools to utilize them, so it's up to Grzegorz to turn the designer's vision into a working piece of the game. If someone, for example, wants to create a system where party members react to each other's actions, like murder, it’s up to him to invent that system and then code it, line by line.

As a writer, Paweł forges the interactions between characters including what do they do, how do they react to certain events. His work is one of the factors in how the story unfolds. He is also the guy that travels around the world to talk about the game during expos and conventions, so you might have seen him in the videos and interviews.

Locations are a very important part of the game. We want to capture the atmosphere of a city under siege and the way you read about it in reports and memories from war. Bartek takes care of that –he puts buildings, furniture and elements of the environment in the scene and decides how they will look when you visit the location for yourself.

Remember the mechanics that Grzegorz had to code? Rafał is the one who invents them. Emotions, combat, trading, healing – you name it. Many of the gameplay mechanics that determine the actions and events occurring in the game came from Rafał’s head. He managed to recreate the grim reality of a war torn city within the capabilities of video game.
