Graphics glitch in Linux. Random black boxes
Hello there!

My screen is covered in random black boxes that appear and disappear. They seem to be alway square and about 50 x 50 px big. They pop in and out pretty fast.

Changing the graphics quality and the pencil effect seems to change how prominent the issue is but doesn't remove it completely.

GPU is a Radeon R9 270X
OS: Elementary OS Freya
Driver is RadeonSI

Here is a bunch of screenshots of the issue.

Thank you!

I have just bought the game and am seeing this too. (Ubuntu 14.04 LTS, dual monitor setup on core i5 / radeon r7 240). I can get rid of the boxes on the first shelter map by reducing to low graphics quality, but they are unavoidable on any of the night scavenge missions, making them almost impossible to play. I have captured a log, will send it, it is full of and too big to post here

Hello,

I'm bumping this thread to post I have the EXACT SAME ISSUE on Linux Mint 17.3 64 bits Cinnamon 2.8.8 in Kernel 3.16.0-38-generic (and others I tested - even 4.7.rc2) using either xserver-xorg-video-ati ver. 1:7.3.0-1ubuntu3.1 or fglrx ver. 2:15.201-0ubuntu0.14.04.1 drivers and to bring this issue to the developer's attention.

If I choose GFX low it reduces a bit but the problem won't go away. The branches of the tree near the house at the start of the game is filled with black blocks.

I'd like 11bit to give us a real fix if possible.

PC is q9400 2.66ghz 4mb ram amd r9 270 ga-p35-ds3 rev 2.0

The game has no issues if you install AMD Proprietary drivers. The last one was from December 2015. Now they are coding it into the Kernel with AMDGPU free open source software (xserver-xorg-driver-ati) but it's not good enough to play games on Linux Mint/Ubuntu yet.

I just installed it and reboot and the black boxes are now gone even with GFX High option on. I'm using Kernel 3.19.0-32-generic.

Go to:

Linux Download Center - http://support.amd.com/en-us/download/linux

Choose your GPU series and distribution name package and get yours. Mine was this:

AMD Radeon Software Crimson Edition 15.12 Proprietary Linux x86 Display Driver

Size: is 177 MB
Revision Number: Crimson Edition 15.12
Release Date: 12/18/2015

1. Download it to "Downloads" or "tmp" folder;
2. Unpack it and run the amd-driver-installer-15.302-x86.x86_64.run in terminal mode;
3. Follow the guide/questions and reboot;

And you'll be good. :)

Actually, not true at all. I'm having game breaking issues w/ newest fglrx (15.302) drivers on my R9 270X on Mint 17.3 (kernel 3.19.0-32). Specifically:
a) soft crash upon intro animation after the intial "Loading" screen (have to [ESC] to skip and then change visual options to temporarily stop crashing)
b) No background graphics upon loading save games (ie characters and items over a mostly white screen), and characters cannot move.

There are significant bugs w/ v 2.2.1 to the point where a perfectly working game has been rendered inoperable. I'm hoping the next patch is better, but I'm bummed.

Sad to hear it doesn't work for you. I don't know what version I'm playing but is not the new expansion.

AMD Proprietary drivers fixed the black blocks glitches for me and made game smooth.

The worst part is that everything was just fine until I took a break for a couple of weeks to play Hotline Miami 2. Upon returning to TWoM, I noticed that it was all screwed up. Turns out it had automatically updated in the interim and had now been rendered unplayable. Didn't know/care about expansion, and no option to rollback to earlier version.

Now, it's just taking space up on my drive. *sigh*
