Quality roll up cigarette question
4 roll-up cigarettes cost 1 component and 1 home-grown tobacco (made from 1 herb)
4 cigarettes cost 1 component and 1 tobacco

Obviously the 4 cigarettes have a higher value than the 4 roll-up cigs, but then again you can grow your own home-made tobacco from herbs but you cannot grow your own actual tobacco (which you'll only find as loot).

Now my question is, what about quality roll-ups?

4 quality roll-ups costs 1 component, 1 herb and 1 tobacco.

Seems a pretty steep price, given the fact that if I had 1 more component, I could make 4 cigs and 4 roll-up cigs instead of just 4 quality roll-up cigs.

So once again:

say I have 2 components, 1 tobacco and 1 home-made tobacco

...should I make 4 cigs and 4 roll-up cigs or 4 quality roll-up cigs and save 1 component?

What gives me more value at the trader?

Empirically (its too boring for me to test for exact numbers) if a low-quality roll-up is worth X, than cigarette is roughly 2X, and QRU is roughly 3X.
So, answering the question, 4 QRUs + 1 comp seems more profitable.

You could take a look at this.

http://thiswarofmine.gamepedia.com/Item_Values

It shows the values of all items compared to eachother.

Read the text under the chart :)

"Disclaimer: This is an estimate done by selling 1 item at a time to the Trader (Franko) who comes at your door, so it may be undervaluing some of the low value items. E.g. Cigarette's value is probably closer to 1.75 components. Cigarettes are valued at 4x Roll-Up, and 2x the Quality Roll-Up. "

that doesnt make any sense, why would cigarettes be worth 2x a quality roll-up when it costs 2x as much to make a quality roll-up?

The site isn't official, and not quite right. Its easily seen with Franko that quality roll ups are more valuable than basic cigs, so the question remains which is best to make for trade purposes, the higher value QRUps, or the basic cigs.

I find the same with bandages and herbal meds - which is best to make once you have the herbs. Bandages have higher value, but by that stage I'm always short of components (fliters, filters, filters...).

Not a completely scientific answer but its simple.

First: go to the trader that will give you the most value for cigs i.e. Military Outpost and bring an equal amount of each type of roll-up cigs. Then trade and see which gives you more items in trade. You can trade for one specific item to make it simple to figure out. Example trade one RU or QRU cig for water. Obvously you have to factor in the cost of production. Its not exact but it gives you a ball park estimate. You can do this with Franko too.

Also, moonshine is more valueable than pure alcohol and its more costly to make. I tested this at the Military Outpost but not with Franko or any other trader.
