Mods can be found on Steam's workshop and they only work with this version of the game.

Mods also works without Steam but it's impossible to find non-workshop of any mods now so you have to "convert" them in order to use them.

You can find most Steam mods here[catalogue.smods.ru], then you have to:
1 - Extract the archive to the Mods folder ("C:\Program Files\Epic Games\This War of Mine" )
2 - Rename the newly created folder to something easily identifiable eg. "Custom Characters Overhaul"
3 - Prefix all files inside it with that name eg. "Custom Characters Overhaul_textures.dat"
4 - Move all the files back to the Mods folder eg. "Mods\Custom Characters Overhaul_textures.dat"
5 - Make a "Mods.list" text file inside the Mods folder where you add the name of the mod(s) you want to load so it look like this

"Custom Characters Overhaul|Custom Characters Overhaul||enabled|local

(<mod id>(prefix)|<mod name>|<mod description>(can be empty)|enabled/disabled|local/workshop)

6 - Launch the game and the mod should finally load without Steam :steammocking:

I followed those steps exactly and it didn't work for me. I had to create a folder named Mods and did everything listed above and the mod doesn't show in the menu.. Which mod did you get it to work with?

Do you have Storyteller.exe in the install folder ? That's the modding tools. You can use it to repack mods for your game. You can try with one my mods (link in FAQ thread) since I made them all available outside the workshop. Or with mods who have a download link like this one.

Once you have one, just extract the archive to the Mods folder then run Storyteller.exe. The mod should appear in the list and you can then launch the game. (To fix any text issue you can repack the mod so the modded localizations files get updated).

I don't see the storyteller.exe file anywhere :(

It has to be in the install folder, even the GOG version has it and it doesn't support mods either. It should be right at the root of the game folder with all the data and index files (.dat and .idx).

If it's not there that sucks because you can't install mods using the modding tools and have to do it the long way like I described above with the Mods.list file etc... You still have the modding centre on the menu right ? (on the bottom left of classic menu).

Seems you cannot install character mods like the other mods. But if it works like the GOG version, you can always download the portrait directly, usually the mod picture, and then drop it into a Portraits folder same place where you have your Mods folder.

Thanks. It works. But custom character.. I can't get it to work. Files temp.dat not loaded. Maybe there is some solution? Created in game custom character saved as <name>.chr file.

I did everything strictly according to the instructions. Thank you Google translator for help in translation :steamhappy:
Rename downloaded mod folder, rename all this mod files, move all files in <game>/Mods/ but not delete mod folder, add mod name in Mods.list.

^You can delete the empty mod folder after you renamed the files, I only added this step so you don't rename the wrong files ^^

@KO KE SI Create the Mods folder there then (e.g. Documents\This War of Mine\Mods) and follow the instructions. Apparently all versions of the game use different folders :steamfacepalm:
