How to finish the game: Fading Embers

I can't beat this final story for some reason. It's fairly difficult, so I used to die from natural causes. Then I added some mods, and the mods would fudge the mechanics up. I would assume I did it wrong, then restart after mods, but then the mods wouldn't implement. IDK.... I would really like to play it and enjoy it with some moderate mods, nothing crazy, but I don't know if they will mess the game up.

The mods I had during my last game:

Last 2 seem fine, but I don't know if the first 2 will mess the game up or not. I've already put at least a dozen attempt into this game, and the amount of conversations and clips (I just learned you can skip certain scenes by holding 'esc' key) are fairly abundant. In my last game, I made it to day 20 and after I built an animal trap, I wouldn't be able to set bait in it, the mechanic was completely glitched. If I don't get any feedback I will probably just remove the first 2 and keep zoomy and the can mod. I can't do this again.

Mods are not necessary ever, plenty of ressources.
Any mod made before the dlc release is probably a no go.

It really does challenge your knowledge and limit. IIRC the trick is to maintain the temp barely above zero when the day is end. Skip shovel to save some extra precious resource and be sure you make the 2nd bed ASAP. Your first three location to scavenge also play a big role, i think back then i managed to scavenge enough resource to make a hatchet very early and make the rest of the game manageable, will need a careful planning tho.
The 2nd part of the game isn't as tricky, just build the essentials, eat every third day (start on the 2nd day u get very hungry).
Also some maps don't require to bring any tool at all, help you free 1 or 2 inventory space, again, need a careful planning. Wiki can help. I manage to win the game without sacrificing any art/memorabilia.
You want to make a copy of your save file at some point because there are several endings

yea... i know all those tips. imo it's extremely difficult. i dont understand how any1 finds it "easy". i just failed again at day 7. ruben died on the way to the museum. managing things with only 2 ppl will be tough so i dono ....

Nah, i won't call it easy. It's tedious and tricky. How did ruben die? Is it sickness or freezing to death? I let him sleep all the time. RNG can really fck you up and make the illness worsen, but you can always restart to roll the dice again.

He was "sick" but I thought I made the trek with that status already and he was fine. Maybe I remember wrong. I restarted only once and was still dead. I guess I'll try a couple more times. The thing I find most difficult to bear is the talking scenes. I can only skip the event scenes. If they are standing still its fine, I can just click, but the following this person around who I can't control, doesn't help, or eat. It's dumb.

Yea I guess I should do backups. Ran out of time at the orphanage while the guy was talking to anja (thought time paused). Now anja is stuck there I guess. I alt + f4 as fast as I could but i guess I didnt do it fast enough for the game to save. That's why I'm looking for mods. 1 little mistake and it all just goes downhill.

So she comes back with a lockpick I guess cuz that's all she had on her when upstairs at the orphanage. That's 1 night wasted. This is why I do not see how it is possible to beat this game without burning everything.
