How do I recruit survivors in the game?

Hell, I'm a big fan of the game, but I've never been able to beat the game, that's because I'm either always running out of resources via thefts, or my roster of limited characters in my base is to blame, and I don't know if it's possible to recruit characters into my base in the games to help myself out?
All n All can anyone tell me if it's possible to recruit survivors in the game, and can you tell me how to do it?

No you cant, and you can only have 4 survivors at a time

Depeding if there's room for one more or if someone dies, a survivor may come to your door and ask to stay, otherwise there's no way to have more people

Get a workbenc, get a hatchet and use it all around your home, you ll have enough wood for some board up againt thieves. Always keep 1 survivor to guard with a weapon (hatchet or make a knife if you re using the hatchet during scavenging) or even 2 survivors guarding during crime waves event.

And you cant recruit characters. Sometimes, an additional may come to your shelter but no always.

make sure you trade with the guy who visits. wood especially, it's cheap and it's a pain to salvage. you can get a decent amount of parts/wood for spare weapons or meds and jewelry and alcohol. don't let your shovel/hatchet/crowbar break either, just trade them away when they're low durability and you can get most of what you need to build another one.
