Yes eating every day is a waste.
Each character need 1 full meal (2 raw food, 2 vegetable, 1 of each, 1 can food or 1 cooked meal) every 2 days.

eating every day is indeed a waste. Eating every odd day or every 3 days is ok. Eating everyday is just self morale bossting for you and a waste of resources.

On the contrary, getting well fed will boost the morale of your survivor

You get well fed if you eat more when you're not hungry anymore.

Only way I see eating every day is not a waste is if you're out of medical supplies and you make a surplus of food. Eating keeps you healthy and more resistant to getting sick
Well fed buff lasts for 1 day.

If your survivor is well fed. The next day they will be normal. If another day passes they will turn hungry.

If you feed a survivor when they dont have the hungry status they get the well fed buff.

You can keep your survivors well fed with 1 meal everyday. Keep in mind if you want your survivors well fed when they are HUNGRY you must feed them twice.

Well fed gives a speed buff, morale boost and makes survivors more likely to heal from disease.

The morale boost applies to all survivors not just the person eating. Having all your survivors content will also make them run faster and help offset sadness from stealing/killing.

The mood buff is so strong you can commit terrible stuff and get away with it without much sadness. This sadness will also recover MUCH faster.

Eating every day is very well worth it if you know where to find food and dont mind stealing every now and then.

There is no shortage of food in the game. Especially if you can make rat traps and vegetable gardens.

For this reason alone, I'm inclined to question if eating every day really IS a waste. I mean, if you're hungry you're more likely to get sick, right? Idk.

So, if you're conserving resources and surviving, then feed every 2 days. If you want the well fed buff, feed every day?

I can attest that feeding your survivors once a day isn't enough for the Well Fed buff, unfortunately. But if I'm understanding people here correctly, keeping them from being Hungry or Very Hungry will minimize how often they're sick.

Personally, I find it challenging but not undoable to feed each survivor (a meal) once a day. But you want to get a couple of traps for food as soon as possible if you're going to do that.

I'm also experimenting on a no-gun campaign where I just sell everything having to do with firearms (minus the Weapon Parts which can be used for other things). This gives me plenty of credit to buy food and other resources. I'm thinking it'll be doable if I board up all the windows, get a reinforced door and make sure everyone guarding the base has a knife.

This is simply not true. Feed your characters UNTIL they are well fed. Hunger goes from a tier from this: -3 Starving 2- Very Hungry -1 Hungry, 0 (normal status) +1 Well fed.

If your character has the well fed stat they will turn to normal status after 1 day after eating. Then once in normal status they will turn hungry after a day.

Eating a meal or canned food will provide +1 to the "food meter". If you eat a meal while a survivor is Hungry they will turn to normal status. If you feed them again it goes to well fed.

What you are doing is that you let your survivors stay at the normal status after they eat once after being hungry. Then you wait for 1 day. To see them be hungry again, because that is how the hunger system works.

If you want the well fed stat every day with one meal you simply just need to feed your survivors twice if they are hungry. One meal for hungry, one meal for "normal".

Once the day passes the survivors will go from well fed to "normal". If your characters have the "normal" hunger status they only require one meal to become well fed again. This you can repeat as long as you have plenty of food.

Well it IS true because I'm playing campaign after campaign right now. But if you're saying that once they're in normal status THEN feeding them once a day (not letting them become Hungry) will do it, fine. My only point is that you can't just feed them once a day for the Well Fed buff to start showing up.

Well, it sort of still is. Food is scarce and if they do get slightly ill you can usually threat it by giving them herbs and going easy on them, like letting them rest all day and letting them sleep more at night. If you’re out of medical supplies then you may consider feeding them more or to give the sick person more food in addition

Fortunately the game's really good about having merchants pop in every once in a while. So another theory is that you could maybe trade most of your meds and such for food.

the miss information on these comments is pretty funny.

"hungry" does absolutely nothing other than your guy complaining.
very hungry makes you walk a bit slower and you recover from wounds & sickness slower
Very hungry however does not make you easier sick/wounded.

Sickness is effected by the temperature of your house.
15 + no chance
10-15 low chance
5-9 moderate chance
0-5 high chance
below 0 very high chance

Everyone can be starving and be depressed, if the temperature is 15+ by morning, no one will get sick.

Wounded is based on
1) Getting hit during scavenger runs
2) Security
3) Amount of people armed
4) Quality of weapons (guns / melee)
5) number of guards.

If you're maxed out on security, have 2 guns, 1 guard, you'll never get hurt from raiders. Maybe you need even less but that's what I found.

You only go from Very Hungry to Starving on the third day.

I always keep my guys hungry and only feed them on the second day of very hungry. They might get sad from time to time (which like hungry does nothing) but as long as you have stuff to prevent it, they're fine and never get depressed - unless you're murdering/stealing from innocent people while they are sad.

You only have to eat on day 5
Day 1 no status
Day 2 Hungry
Day 3 Hungry
Day 4 Very Hungry
Day 5 Very Hungry
Day 6 Starving
Day 7 Starving
Day 8 extremely starving
Day 9 dead

Day 1 no status
Day 2 Hungry
Day 3 Hungry
Day 4 Very Hungry
Day 5 Very Hungry (eat)
Day 6 Hungry
Day 7 Hungry
Day 8 Very Hungry
Day 9 Very Hungry (eat)

To summarize: Eat on day 5 and then every 4 days.
5,9,13,17,21,25,29,33,37,41
10 cooked meals per person.
