Do you restart after a death? or are characters just replaced?

During a game you can sometimes get an extra character regardless of your previous dying or not.
If you survive with at least one till the end of the war (<40 days), the scenario will be considered completed.

If all your characters die is game over. If a character dies during looting at night, you can very quickly hit Alf + F4 and start from the same day morning.
Other than that, as Bobywan said you will sometimes during a scenario get visitors who ask you to stay and join you.

No, you can win if you survive till the end of the war. (40 days max)
There is also a way to escpae if you have the port as a scavenging location, you'll need diamonds.

that is just annoying 40 days oh man 7 days I got christo killed how heartbreaking I wasn't trying to get him killed just it happened. I guess I have trial run in workshop stories first that was not so bad...There were limited selection where to go in final cut.

If your character dies during scavenging you can cheat: when it says x died, ilmediately press alt+f4 to exit the game, when you continue your story it will start the morning before, your char still alive, as the game only save once a day.
