No option for Write Your Own Story?

I feel like an idiot for asking this, but I get no option for the Write Your Own story mode when booting the game. The bottom option says "Stories," and clicking it leads to a link to the DLC. Can anyone tell me what I'm doing wrong?

Custom game is in the main game.
Click another try and then custom story.

Main start menu has "Final Cut, classic modes" and "Stories" (which opens a Steam DLC box) as selections. Picking Final Cut/Classic modes goes to the next menu where "Another Try" is. After selecting Another Try the menu has "choose your story" (greyed out, I cannot select it itself), then the three character stories (Katia, Pavle and Iskra, with Zlata to the far right). Two other story selections are "locked." No option for make my own. There are two selections in bottom left to force Final Cut or anniversary edition. "Random" button on lower right next toe Exit. That's all. I must be missing something, my apologies if so...

ok, from workshop mode there is a tab that reads 'my story' from there you can create a custom game.
at least that's the way I've been doing it.
