That's mean your planning is not good. You just need to bring an axe and chop down some wood, no need to kill anyone. And you should prepare enough wood before the winter comes. (listen to the radio or watch the temperature change)
if you have extra wood you can trade it for a better offering and you should trade it first before the winter ends.
