What happens if you steal the rare book to help the orphan girl?

Do you need the book for later in the game? Can you get it back?
What's the trade-off?

You don't NEED it later, but the lady who gave it to you will come back asking for it, saying it's her ticket out of the city. It's implied that you may have condemned her by giving the book away. However, it does say post-game that the book kept the orphans going through the war and became a family heirloom for the little girl... though I guess another part of the trade off is that the girl keeps it throughout her life and never redonates it to a museum or anything, it's essentially lost as a cultural work.

I tried to keep the book, but all that does is prevent you from moving on with the game's story.

how do i steal the book? i can not find any option do to that ?
