It kinda sucks because it feels like there's no real penalty for starving a kid, they'll eventually be taken by the Red Cross anyway. It sort of defeats the point of even keeping them alive, when the adults are actually vulnerable to death. And deaths happen off-screen anyway so I don't think that should be too violent. I appreciate the devs' intention, though.
“One night, Kalina died while her brother Grozdan was trying to reach his uncle’s house. He didn’t, and their uncle will never know what happened to them. After the war, Kalina was given a symbolic funeral, but she will never realise her dream of traveling to Africa with her brother”
FYI I did two experiments w/ custom scenario to see whether or not it's possible to have a kid die or possibly find out about what is the WORST scenario you can get.
For context, both scenarios I put under 30 days w/ high level of crime and late but moderate severe winter. Also, I use Kalina as the kid in both scenarios.
In addition, lengthy spoiler ahead!
*if you want to prevent from getting the kid to broken, get an adult to give her bandages + talk to her. AFAIK you'll get a note the next day saying that "*insert adult's name here* used our supplies to help Kalina" (the message pops up if you get an adult not only to talk to a kid & help them if they were severely wounded/ill, but this was observed when I did the scenario w/ Marin, Arica, Katia, Misha).
[/spoiler]So yea, there we go.... I legit had the burning question of whether or not it was possible for kids to die in the game, which pretty much led me into doing these tests.
BUT it turns out that you can let children die now, at least indirectly. With the last dlc they added an option called CustomTraumaOnDwellerDeath that, as the name suggests, allows you to trigger any traumas, including suicide, whenever someone die, like say the child guardian.
So yeah, I hope you are happy to know it's possible to do now.. And no I'm not crying
