Worth is an extremely subjective concept, depending not in the least by how much of a disposable income you have available. As such you're the only one that can decide if it's worth it or not.

It is a great game, plenty of people have thousands of hours on it so for them it was definitely worth it; at the same time, many people really did not like the game and have stopped playing it well before the 100 hours mark.

Best advice would be to look around for some gameplay video online and if you like what you see buy the base game and a couple of DLC; eventually if you do enjoy the game you can buy the rest (or even just those DLC that do appeal to you).

This is the single best piece of advice in this thread for the amount of money we're throwing around. Follow it. Unless you hate strategy games period, Stellaris is not the kind you can accurately determine if you like within the refund window either.

Personally, I'd say it is. That being said, I say it is using my own personal metric which is "Can I get either at least 1 hour of enjoyment for every dollar payed (which stellaris has absolutely blown past for me) or can I get something exceptionally fun out of the experience (I absolutely consider doom eternal and TOGs expansions to be worth it, despite failing the time requirement)". Your mileage may vary, because the game has some massive flaws for sure (including the fact that the devs continue to insist that they can't properly multithread the game so the performance is heavily CPU core speed capped) and the industry standard ♥♥♥♥ AI.

Something else worth keeping in mind is that you don't strictly speaking need to get all the DLC at once, or even at all. Species packs are nice, but not required to get the full experience (for example).

if you play World of Warcraft you pay 156$ a year in subscription fees. That's 1248$ since 2016 when this game was released. That is not even counting the price of the base game and all its expansions.

Absolutely this. MMOs are hella pricey. I own every expansion up through Dragonflight, and have multiple years' worth of subscription fees as well. By the by, it's only $156 if you buy it in large chunks; if you pay month-to-month, it's $180/year. I probably sank more than $2K into WOW.

And another $1K yo $1.5K into City of Heroes/Villains.

And several hundred (total) into a handful of other MMORPGs here and there.

I doubt it. Stellaris has a very large player base so it only makes sense it has more than its fair share of fanbois who love throwing points away awarding those Clown awards.
Glad my post got me another clown, i love the free points I can throw at players who deserve a fun award for being creative or helpful.

5380.7 hrs played so far. I have every dlc. I didnt pay full price though, waited for sales. The game is worth it. Vanilla is ok, but Horizon and Civilisation make it well worth the price. I would say those 2 mods alone acct for 4k of my hours played.
