Well as you go you have opportunities to go along with it or try to stop. If you just go along with it until the end you get the option to either join the worm or start a fight with him. The fight will take place in your home system. During all this the portrait of your species can change. Now when you get to the part whether to join or reject the worm, the fight which is hard will result in getting a relic. Joining the worm will turn several planets in your home system, including your home world, into tomb worlds and the pops in your home system will change their world type preference into tomb worlds, they'll get that trait from the post apocolyptic civic start that increases their leader lifespan by 10 years, and they get a trait that increases physics research. The lifespan increasing one I believe costs 0 trait points and persists through gene modification. The physics research trait costs 1 trait point. If you're into gene modification you might want to modify your species the way you want first because you could end up with more traits than your species is allowed pointwise, which you'll lose if you gene mod them again. I choose joining the worm, but getting the relic will boost your score because getting relics ads score points.
