PS: When I colonize a country, it always has a black flag, is this normal or some sort of bug ?

The demographics of a country can increase or decrease your government support. If your country is 100% French, 100% Catholic, etc, you will recieve a benefit. Most nations do receive benefits starting out but annexing new and foreign territories will decrease this. A puppet state allows you to have indirect control over whatever you would normally annex. Puppet states will function independently from you for the most part.

The lower right hand panel will have a row of buttons above the map, click on the temple. The popup will show you.

The only way to do that is by taking regions of different demographics and creating puppets, colonies, or protectorates out of them. Example: For Russia you could make Ukraine a puppet state, still under your allegiance, but functioning independently.

Anything that your main nation controls or owns will be unputed into demographics. Puppets, colonies, and protectorates use their own demographics.
