Do I need to play Journey to the Savage Planet before playing this one?

I saw a few videos for this game on TikTok and it definitely peaked my interest. I'm thinking of getting it, but I just wanted to know do I need to play the first game before playing this one? Like will I be missing any pieces of the story if I jump straight to this one?

I wouldn't say so, the one recurring character gives you what little info you need.

But the two games are bundled anyway, and very similar in a good way. I can highly recommend playing the first game.

They're connected, as this one is a definite sequel, but I don't think you /need/ to play Journey first, though I would HIGHLY recommend doing so. The first sets up a character you will continuously interact with (and there's a complete sidequest chain involving him), not to mention the company he runs. Otherwise, the first game will also give you a rundown on a lot of the mechanics you will use in this (though the grapple in this one seems a bit more glitchy as to when you can actually use the grapple points, which I think might have to do with being in third person).

I played the first one years ago and can barely remember anything from it. I don't feel i need a refresher as neither is that deep in story, the comedy in the moment is more important.

not really no, theres no real continuation from the first game, and theres no reference to anything that happened.

It's part of why a lot of old fans are upset, the first game ended on a huge reveal, massive implications, getting our hands on alien tech and definitive proof of not just alien life, but of sentient life capable of communication and recorded knowledge

you better play 1st game instead of this poorly designed mess, i cant even call it a sequel, its such a departure from everything that was good about 1st game it feels more like some spin off, so im waiting for real sequel of 1st game.
