Sure would be nice. I remember beating the game back in the day on PS2 and am about to try and get a hold of it for gamecube and go for another run on it. Would be great to see it for PC.
yea I was really hopeful. summoner 1 is ok but Just imagion if they brought themselves to remaster the games. I can't beleive THQ can't get the source codes though. I mean Their label is smacked all over the games. I think Volition did the games and THQ was publisher? perhaps I am wrong but you would think the devs would say hey THQ sure you could liven the games again.
The problem will be gathering enough people to garner that attention...BUT if it could be done, I'd be willing to bet there's a chance of it happening.
Edit: Also this might be the only thread ever in my life that I actually get excited when it gets necro'd because it's just always nice to talk Summoner xD
Volition, was the Game Developer, THQ the publisher.
Volition is the same developers that gave the world Decent. Summoner was a new Type of game for them. They mostly worked on Action shooters like Decent1/2,FreeSpace/2, Red faction, and then comes a really cool RPG with awesome new methods of Texture mapping and voice acting but it was rushed out the door due to publisher politics. I remember reading about it in a gaming magazine back in 1999.
Using the same engine as never released game Decent 4 and still in development Red Faction they create Summoner and was set to be a lunch title for the PS2. They end their publishing deal with Interplay and was purchased by THQ. They were not able to make Decent 4 due to it being owned by Interplay so they focused on Red Faction and reused all of the code.
Volition, Now Deep Silver Volition. The publishing writes for Summoner is now owned by Nordic Games after THQ's bankruptcy. The IP sold for a very small amount of money... but Nordic spent 6.5 million on their bulk of their game library.
Summoner has a great story. If they remade it and actually finished it. I Imagine it would be a good seller...
Volition is Still creating games, they are still out there. I Always loved their early games before the saints games. I hope they go back to their roots.
That being said, if you want to mod Summoner, Just use the red faction mod tools. Also if you want to Play Summoner 2 on the PC you can always use dolphin. The gamecube version was the definitive version.
THQ experienced financial issues due to mismanagement. Because of this Volition was sold in a fire sale to Deep Silver who now own the rights to their games. While I'm not sure if the source code exists or not it's really a matter of whether or not the files were backed up or not and if they were whether or not Summoner 2 sold enough copies to warrant porting it.
If I remember right Summoner 2 didn't sell that well so I wouldn't hold your breath.
Well, if you have an original Gamecube disk it makes it rather easy to rip the game files....

Ripping and modding summoner 1 is very easy.
I am not sure if Summoner 2 is using the Descent 4 engine or not but if it is, reverse engineering it would be annoying but not impossible.
I took a deeper look it uses Volution table files so if you wanted to see it run on pc you could just mod summoner 1 and sub out all of the files for the summoner 2 files.... better yet you probably could run the levels by adding a button on the launch screen as a test....

This is not a can't do it, probably just not a want to do waist the money on it.
I have no idea but if we can find it I do think there's a chance of igniting that spark
