Always Sometimes Monsters is a nice little game where you are fighting to get your loved one back. Get on a journey where every decision you'll make will impact the world around you !
What I really liked about this game, is that every time I played it, I escaped into this beautiful world, that I cared so much for. Seeing your character grow and change trhough your choices was really fun and I spent a wonderful time playing this game. There is so much to discover everywhere, especially by collecting little toys, my completist instinct was fulfilled.
But there are some tiny problems that you may encounter when playing the game.
First one, juste remember to save frequently, the auto-save can be a bit weird and take you really far from where you left the game.
Secondly, when you are trying like me to get every collectibles, you click on everything, plants, walls, cars, trashcan etc. But there are some places where the devs forgot to get rid of some items... In the first town, I randomly got 100 000$ and I don't even know when it was... I also got some of the best food for free, and, yeah, you can just say that you won't use the 100 000$, but for the items, I got to a point where I didn't even knew what I had bought, and what I wasn't supposed to have...
Finally, there is a hunger parameter that is very interesting ! You need to get money, to buy food for the character so he doesn't starve. But just get a fishing rod, and you have access to almost unlimited fish... It just breaks the game x). I also read some people say that even when the hunger bar was empty, if they slept in a good bed and not in the street, then they would never "die"... It's a shame that you can bypass hunger that easily imo...
But those are really minor problems, the game is still amazing, and I greatly advise you to play it and see for yourself !

Depressing. Usually people play games to escape reality, not try to romanticize it.

I did NOT expect this game to be as good as it is. I stumbled across the trailer and thought "that might be fun". I now regret buying it on sale. The devs deserved ALL of my money. I don't usually care for romance; and this game is, at its core, a romance (the whole point is to win your ex back), and since I didn't care about that, I got the worst possible ending lol. The thing is, I loved the adventure so much, I almost didn't care. I just enjoyed the ride. When I replayed it, I managed to get the "good" ending (which isn't all that difficult if you think about your choices), and the outcomes really makes you think about life and relationships in general. The interactions you can have with other characters, and the ways in which you can mess around, are both heart wrenching and hilarious. I highly recommend this game to anyone who enjoys story, problem solving, and old fashioned 8-bit adventures.
