Not to mention all the stuff that led up to it. It wasn't only about Brad, but also Micheals grave which wasn't empty as they tried to make Trevor believe.
He also thought Michael was dead and buried in North Yankton.
Now suddenly Michael reappears, alive and well under a new identity courtesy of the FIB, and Trevor thinks that Michael's grave in North Yankton is empty.
That is, until he gets suspicious, flies over there and digs up the grave only to find the decomposed remains of Brad, all while Michael has followed him and is hell-bent on stopping him looking inside the grave.
Even if Brad's remains were completely unrecongnizable, it would now be very obvious for Trevor what happened.

Never quite got an answer, it seems to be a weak part of the story script where Trevor needs to have a reason to go to North Yankton to discover the truth about what happened in the prologue to tie up the story.

As for the OP's question here, the body hadn't decomposed to the point it was unrecognisable so Trevor could tell it was Brad.
