Did you really expected to it within 1 hour the first time?
My first time took me several hours too.
Day two I already got the hang of it, discovered the tunnel entrance which skips the outside area of the heist and allows me to use the blow torch instead of the the explosives, which allows a full stealth run and let me skip the explosives prep mission.
Day three I was already with a average time of 1 hour and created this guide:
https://steamcommunity.com/app/271590/discussions/0/4576185279359009729/
By the end of the first week, some guides were already out, I learned some tricks with them and got my time down to an average of 50 minutes for scope+setups+finale.
You need to learn it to be able to achieve this time, but it isn't something from another world. I'm not a hardcore player and got it in the first days without any guides out. Take some time to learn it, watch some guides.

And this isn't a super fast time.
I consider it a average time for players who know this heist.
i will scout out some secondary loot during recon and i dont generally go for the main dock exfil point (i might go airport, or submarine etc), and i can pull the whole thing off in 1.5-2.0 -ish hours.
the trick imo is to make liberal use of the sub's sparrow copter, and position the sub in a strategic manner.
for the setup/prep phase, i wrote a detailed breakdown of how i move/position the sub and the order i do the prep work in another thread:
https://steamcommunity.com/app/271590/discussions/0/3003304160976848043/#c3118147344422433965
i find the steps in the linked thread will streamline the prep work quite a lot by minimizing needless travel.
i should point out that after my first run (in which i wanted to go in blind) i took note of what Asterio above here was putting out in order to make my own approach more effective and it helped trim quite a few corners.
But one heist per hour isn't nonsense at all, and the only reason I say this is because I can manage this too.
Things to look out for:
- Everything is static & routine; all guards in the compound (and outside) move according to specific patterns which start when you get to a specific location. Take note, keep them in mind, and you can anticipate.
- When doing the heist a second time then the longest mission is to fly the Velum to the south end of the map; all you have to do on the island is to get to the tower, hack the signalbox, and you're done. This can even be done using a bike *
- The quickest option is to use the Kosatka as approach / escape vehicle and set your landing & entry point to the drainage tunnel.
- You only need 5 prep missions (excluding the intel) and 4 of them can be done in the city (weapons, cutter, fingerprint scanner, plasma cutter or vault codes), the last is to get the sonar jammer. If you do them in order then you only need to move your sub once, which saves time.
- Mastering headshots is crucial, even the toughest guard (the one with the minigun) can be insta-killed with a headshot. If you need practice then do some gang attacks (the red areas on the map): when killing enemies the game keeps track of how many headshots you got. Try to get better!
- Very important: don't rush things during the heist. If you're not sure of a headshot, don't take it and wait for the next cycle. Also don't kill guards which are too close to other guards.
- I'm almost done with a rather extensive Steam guide on the heist, I'm sure that's going to be helpful.
But seriously... you're absolutely right: the heist can be extremely annoying to do at first and getting your fingers behind the mechanics is a frustrating experience. Don't mind what others tell you, anyone who disagrees most likely never bothered to try stuff on their own (simply cheated by using a guide) or... they got so extremely frustrated themselves that they supressed all their bad memories! But I'm very honest with you: if you press on then you will get better, you will learn how to spot the guard mechanics and once you've done some setup missions a few times you'll be able to easily finish them without thinking.
In a way this is comparable to the contact missions: they can be quite frustrating when you try them out at first, a very good example of this is the Blow up IV[gta.fandom.com] contact mission; if you're not careful then you'll get creamed when you exit the warehouse, because that mission is extremely unfair and enemies seem to come from all ends while you hardly have any place to take shelter.
But once you tried this mission a few times you'll know how to prepare; park a (armored?) car in a strategic location, make sure to prepare the right weapons right before entering the warehouse, stuff like that. And then... this mission becomes doable again.
It's all about getting your fingers behind the game mechanics.
I didn't time my first run, but it probably took me even longer than it did for you.
I think I played GTA something like 10h that day. Not all of it was Cayo Perico, but most of it.
I spent a long time (probably a few hours) on the island during my first intel mission, just going everywhere and trying to see where everything is (I still ended up missing some stuff), and the heist itself was a complete ♥♥♥♥-show, again probably taking me multiple hours of messing up/failing/trying again.
I spent a -long- time trying to understand how the guards work, how they respond to stealth, etc. My first run was a complete nightmare.
Doing it solo, stealth is absolutely the way. If you get discovered, unless you're a masochist, just kill yourself. Guards will respawn infinitely, and they'll appear right next to you.
Read Asterio's guide that he linked above. It's excellent.
And optimal approach aside, I'd still recommend trying out other ways just for the sake of experience (both for reasons of entertainment and knowledge).
Yup. Unless you can find a playstyle that works for you (I mean in general, not just for Cayo Perico) and you can ignore that aspect, you're probably better off not playing GTAO.
It -can- be fun for a solo player, but it's not for everyone, and you have to figure out what works for you.

I spent a lot of time getting shredded on my first playthrough, I didn't watch any finale tutorials or nothing as I enjoy learning things myself (i did watch a scope out tutorial tho not making the same mistake i did with casino heist) I got used to it tho. Everyone plays differently and figuring out whats comfortable for you is only going to come from playing. The heist will be extremely easy once you have the formula down.
Also you will probably have issues with the stealth part on your firsts attempts, wich is normal and frustrating. Is just a matter or getting used to the island and the route that it suits better for you inside the compound.
I already said this in other posts. I didn't did any other heist before in GTAO (besides Fleeca Job), yet I'm making easy money with this one with no issues since I got used to its mechanics.
And I say you the same I said to another guy few weeks ago. You're giving up too soon, the heist gives his best potential the more you're used to it.
just mess a little bit with cover system at the door and it will magicly open
it needs some training, tried it for at least 30min and only managed to open the door once so it is definetely more complicated than the hacking part, but a good lockpicker can enter these restricted areas.
If you want to run the island solo, Scout the island out on the first part, find sheds with Coke inside, mark them on the map with the camera. Then start the mission by sub or longfin, sail or swim to the area with the coke, loot it then head to where the drainpipe is, enter through the drain systems. Go to the top floor where the keycard is, open the hidden safe on the right hand side for 50-100k. If a guard dropped a key use the gates below the building (means you only have to do 1-2 finger prints instead of 4-5), loot the main objective, go out of the main gate, take out the guard near the bike and then ride off the cliff and swim off the map.
2 lots of coke is 441k. Do not try to fight on this map, you'll make it too hard and lose too much money. Use silenced weapons and only take out who you need to, not every guard needs to die. Many you can simply walk passed.
Another little tip, if you see two guards together, line their heads up with the sniper and take them both down at the same time when solo. (if you can that is.)
What did you expect? Getting free content and free DLC for over 7 years now without paying a dime? oh, wait...
So either you have to work for your ingame money or buy shark cards, if you're to lazy.
still better than looboxes or ♥♥♥♥ like that.
Of course they try to earn money with this game, that's how game developement works.
Even game developers need food, you know?
Be careful you don't choke on that corporate boot, now.
