Here's Rockstar's statement about Take-Two shutting down GTA's OpenIV modding tool

Yesterday we reported that the lead developer of OpenIV, a modding tool that has allowed the GTA games to be modded for nearly a decade, had decided to shut down their mod after receiving a cease and desist from Take-Two Interactive, publisher of the Grand Theft auto series.

While we have not received a comment from Take-Two, Rockstar just sent PC Gamer its statement on the matter. Here it is in full:

"Take-Two's actions were not specifically targeting single player mods. Unfortunately OpenIV enables recent malicious mods that allow harassment of players and interfere with the GTA Online experience for everybody. We are working to figure out how we can continue to support the creative community without negatively impacting our players."

What? They support the community? OpenIV does not condone Online use of the mod if you even try and go online the program goes NOPE YOU CANT DO THAT. If anyone was using it for online play all they would of had to do was contact the OpenIV devs and have them fix it. They mod the SP because they love the game, they are not hackers. They seem to be providing cover for take 2 basically, this all seemed to have started back in april so still doesn't answer questions about those starting contacts between the mod team and take two's lawyers back when the big project to link gta iv and gta v started picking up speed. People have to understand rockstar is a subsidiaryp of Take 2 so things must be taken into context on all ends.

More info will keep coming out about this and such. At-least I hope, just my random thoughts on the matter.

So says you. othere ppl pretty much confiremed it's used to modify/script online components. it's just a tool, how it's used is up to end user, which sux atm.

Scripts and cheat menus are done through things like scripthook, not openIV. Please, don't comment back unless you know what you're talking about.

Unfortunately, the inability of the openIV creator to police mod/hack creation through easy reverse engineering of his tool means that everything gets shut down. Basically, online script users who use reverse engineered programs, and paid mods have ruined it for single player modders. Don't direct the hate at those trying to limit the damage to their game. Direct the hate at the online modders, those people who are actively trying to hurt the community and who have caused this in the first place.

Please go see that Psych Doctor. If you cannot put two and two together and see what an argument is, your neurological connections are messed up. Seek help. A psych ward is not a punisment, it's to help you. We don't do medical quackery for mental health anymore. It's not perfect, but it helps.
