the contact mission tips thread :)
Hi gang,

Now that we get double money & double RP for doing contact missions I figured it might be helpful to share a bit of info about these missions. I'm pretty sure most veterans will know these missions by heart (especially because they were pretty much the only way of making good money on old-gen), but these missions don't have to be so obvious for newer players. Seriously: I've started playing on PC in January this year (moved from PS3) and I've only been texted once about a contact mission.

So yeah, maybe some tips which can be useful and if any of you have some to share then please do!

Don't rush the mission!

If you rush a contact mission then you're only denying yourself money. The longer you take to do a mission the more money (and RP) you'll get in the end. Missions can pay up to 19,400 and 20,300 GTA$. (edit: This is now doubled during the event).

This is also why missions which have plenty of NPC's to kill are quite lucrative because you can take your time to kill the baddies (= more money). And killing those NPC's will also earn you extra RP (and possible dropped cash).

Be sure to start / unlock missions using the online menu

Missions become available to play at certain levels. And once you successfully completed a mission you will then unlock it. With unlocking I'm referring to the fact that the mission can be shown in the voting screen which you get after each contact mission; this allows the team to vote for the next mission to play. However, this screen only shows missions which the host has already completed themselves.

Therefor it's usually a good idea to start your first mission using the main menu. This menu will also clearly show which missions you have(n't) played.

Of course, if you just want something random to surprise yourself then you should try calling either Gerald, Simeon, Martin, Lester or Ron and ask them for a job to do. Note that Lamar also has missions for you, but you can't call him to request any (which is where the menu comes into play again).

All missions follow the same pattern

When an enemy is in a certain position then you can be sure that they'll be there again during the next time you play the mission.

Also always be careful when you start completing an objective because that's when the reinforcements will spawn. And unfortunately they sometimes spawn in the most bizarre places (such as driving on the wrong side off the highway).

But in general: the moment you complete an objective is usually also the moment when bad stuff is going to happen.

Speaking of which....

There's (usually) always 3 waves of reinforcements

Normally there will be 3 waves of spawning reinforcements and that's it. However, there are exceptions. A very notable one is 'Mixed up with Coke' where you have to destroy some cement trucks. The moment you destroy the first you can get attacked by up to 5 waves of spawning enemies. Just keep in mind that these waves aren't endless.

Fun fact: the "Four trailers" mission used to have an endless amount of spawning enemies but that got changed to the 3 waves we have now.

Also note that you can sometimes force the reinforcements to spawn. A good example is 'Gassed up'. Once you killed the enemies and picked up the coke you can walk towards the main road which will eventually force the enemies to spawn. Run back to the main location and you can set up an ambush for them (they will go all the way around to get to you).

Enemies can sometimes change behavior

This is actually why I enjoy missions on PC a lot more than on old-gen consoles. When you shoot an enemy then they'll usually get up for you to shoot them again (provided that you didn't immediately kill them). However... sometimes an enemy which survives your initial attack won't pick up its old location but can in fact try to set up a trap for you (by going into hiding in another (usually nearby) location).

Keep that in mind if you notice that some enemies survived.

You can actually enter your house if there isn't a direct objective

Even though your house won't show up on the map it will still be accessible. And unless you have a directive (= a yellow dot where you have to go to) you can easily go to your house and enter. For example to watch TV: looking at how bad your team mates are doing without you ;)

And also some personal ideas, these have no effect on the missions themselves but....

Give lower level players a break

Higher level players will usually have better vehicles. I got an oppressor which can be used as a personal vehicle, so if I were to use that guess who can reach the objective first? But the same can be said about super cars and Pegasus vehicles.

So if you (as high level player (I'd say 80+)) enter a mission where a low level player is hosting, why not try to give 'm a break? For example: you reach the objective first and they're waay behind. That's what you get if the best car you can get is a freebie.

So why not wait for 'm to catch up? I'm sure it's no fun for them driving over only to see that the action is done when they finally got there. Besides: taking a quick break will also help the reward timer to go up a bit more, which means more cash for the both of you!

Don't go for Pegasus all the time

I get it: you don't want to fail the mission. But what fun is there in getting a helicopter (or other vehicle) and just blasting the enemies? Especially if you keep in mind that the faster you're done, the less payment you'll get.

Try something different for a change ;)

Wait for your team before triggering the end animation

If you trigger the end then some missions will show a small movie featuring the players who are close around the area. If you see that some players are busy rushing over, why not wait for 'm so that they can also enjoy the animation? It's really not that important, but IMO it can be a nice gesture.

Try to have some fun! ;)

And there you have it, hope this can be useful for some of you.

Nice guide, two things I would add is that contact missions give loads of RP so with x2 RP they are really worth doing.
Max RP for a 16min mission is +9k RP, so its the best way of ranking up. You also get bonus on that RP if you play with friends/crew.
Playlists save on load times, so make a few, I have a couple of fast ones that all missions can be done in under 4-5mins and some slower playlists where max reward will be payed as the missions take awhile.

Many players may not know how to access contact missions from the pause menu:

Pause -> Online -> Jobs -> Rockstar created -> Contact missions

All previously completed contact missions will be listed here.

Playlists, to skip voting screen and loading.

Can't even find my own on the new social club web site after they changed it.

There are also some contact missions which can only be started directly from the map during a certain time window at a certain position.

playlist for all of them

at the end it is just peanuts especially, if you wait for that 16 min. it is more efficient to finish them in around 4-5 mins.
you could easily earn 110k with selling one i/e vehicle, doing a terrorbyte mission like the diamond theft and one vip mission like headhunter in freeroam without any annoying loadingscreens

alternatives for quick rp
are arena wars fortune wheel in the spectator rooms
There is an extra door to enter the spectator lobby in your aw garage, don't miss to change joining online setting after you have entered the lobby. it will prevent that you join the match after the end of a round.

doing ceo crate missions is the fastest way for all businesses.

do spinzillas during stuntraces

Hey cruste. Kain got an updated guide on Dubsta2. And we've made guides on Sentinel XS and Sandking XL as well.

For new players (with no ceo office, nightclub/terrorbyte...) these 2x on contact missions is ok.

@Shel put your post into a guide?

I thought that one got removed? I'll test it.

And I found my playlists:

4 players, 16 jobs. Play it slow and safe.
