AFK Method Not Working

Okay, this isn't working. I retired as MC president, went to my Maze Bank office, started a contact mission called Pier Pressure, then sat down on the couch and turned on cartoons. I alt-tab to my desktop and locked my computer screen, obviously not logging out completely. Came home from work and I'm looking at the screen that tells you you've been idle too long and have been disconnected. Where did I go wrong? Did I suddenly forget a step or am I just that stoned?

Why people still follow that dumb method? JUST watch tv while having pause of focus loss disabled.

My "pause game on focus loss" if that's what you meant, is off. I'm watching TV. With or without starting a contact mission does not work. And if I'm unable to alt-tab out of the game then I'm locking the computer with the game on the screen.

There are other reasons I didn't want the game up on my screen with my computer locked. Sometimes I have to unlock the computer with other people present, like my kids, and if they see the game up, they're going to want to play it, and then I get to hear whining for 30 minutes. And yes I'm talking about older teenagers.

Anyway starting a contact mission was just a suggestion from a friend at work oh, so whether it worked or not was beyond me.

Alt-tab works if you have auto-pause-on-focus-loss off (which you have) AND your game is NOT in fullscreen (borderless window is my favorite). I sometimes watch a movie in the evening while letting gtao accrue products in the NC (you want to turn down sound and music volume in GTA for that) and have no issue for hours.

Locking the computer is basically the same as auto-pause-on-focus-loss ON, so you don't wanna do that. Oh and you need to be in a contact mission! Freeroam doesn't work for long!

If you lock your desktop, it's like you minimize the game's window -> Kick after 15 mins. AFK.

If alt-tabed you kicked in 2 minutes no matter what you do, end of story.

Disable "Pause on Focus lost" and watch TV, select windowed mode, don't minimize window and don't lock desktop, and you won't be kicked.

I do, when I'm home. I can't play the game normally when I'm at work. I assumed this was self-explanatory. Anyway, why not have the game generate passive income while I'm at work? I can make up to 1 mil passively since I have all NC upgrades, the Pounder, and all five techs generating income.

Oh, and about the whole starting a contact mission right before watching TV, it allows you to avoid having to pay bills and also avoids getting raided.

I suppose I'm old fashioned. I enjoy playing the game to earn the in game currency. I don't see the thrill of it. Even if im exploiting misions in the sense of, say, usuing my armored kuruma for the prison break heist. But to waste server space for cash farming just seems like a low bar mate.

Can't be in fullscreen mode needs to be either windowed mode or windowed-fullscreen. Tick the option to let the game remain running without focus. Pick a mission without a running timer (which I think Pier Pressure is fine for but I'm not positive off the top of my head).

You screwed up on one of those things it sounds like. Sometimes people will also sit on the couch but not 'watch TV' but if you got the point where you even turned the TV on (which you don't need to) then obviously you hit 'watch TV' first.

Yet, there are whole youtube guides and online guides dedicated to using this method. It's not against the terms of service, we aren't breaking any rules, and anyone can do it, even folks on console with various methods. That's cool though, mate. You don't have to if you aren't comfortable with it. It's useful for those who work more than they play to generate income. If R* had an issue with it, they would patch it. Or, you could enjoy some passive income yourself and hop on the easy AFK train. Hop aboard, mate!

I don't see the argument that its not *technically* against the rules. I don't really care if it's equating to a literal cheat. All I'm arguing is that its probably not what the developers intended players to do to play the game, and earn money. The only time I'd compare your methods of "passive" income is that, no matter your apparent work schedule, it takes away the grind that majority of players, playing in good faith are going through, and frankly a lazy way to progress.

That's all from me though, not really tryna drag on the great debate of people actually playing the game or just doing the same as taping a rubberband to a joystick to progress even without actually playing. It seems there will always be peeps who can't simply play the game as intended, even at the expense of other people and the community culture.

earning money with passive income is part of the game, sitting afk is part of the game, don't let some guy who thinks he has integrity because he doesn't afk steer you astray, because that malarkey is all in his head.

and there is no 'server space' to waste, it's p2p chief.

Fair enough. I definitely get your point, and appreciate you explaining it in a professional manner (unlike so many kids on these forums), I truly do.

The NC generates income passively on it's own when set up correctly, the only difference in my situation is it's doing the same thing when I'm at work as it does when I'm sitting in front of the screen. But I'm still technically in the game even though I'm not there. I do have my son of 18 randomly check on it and occasionally run missions for me as well, so it does get some activity. But since this is possible, and until they patch it, I'll still take part in the passive method of generating income. However, I do respect your opinions on it.
