The Syreen are a tough one.
In Star Control: Origins the stars are positioned roughly based on where they are in real life.
But the Syreen from SC2 come from a star that is way, way far away.
Of course, our Syreen don't necessarily have to follow that beginning.
But to answer your question, the aliens you meet are all very alien. No humanoids. But it is also important to note that SCO is the very, very beginning of what we hope will be many years of story telling.
I'm fine with Space Succubi DLC too by the way (where, we, the Great Humanity have to save them - classic way). And since SCO is only beginning of entire new universe, I have A LOT of expectations from it.
