4-5 second complete freezes
I had this issue in the fleets beta and still have it now.... everything from the main menu to the settings page to being in game every 10 seconds it seems i have a complete game/system freeze for 4-5 seconds at a time

specs: amd phenom2 x3 720 triple core
16GB ram
AMD R9 280x 3GB
windows 7 fully up to date as well as latest AMD driver specifically optimized for star control

Is it just my old ass CPU?

I have Intel i7, 16gb RAM and RX580 graphic card, I even lowered my graphical settings, I should have plenty of juice to run this game smoothly. Could it be a sound issue??

It doesn't seem like it would be sound.

Like SB mentioned, you can turn down anti-aliasing which might reduce memory bandwidth use.

In my experience, and I'm speaking purely as a gamer, I run into this due to thermal throttling most often. That's why I keep suggesting CPU temperature monitors just to see if that is it.

Updated all the drivers (chipset, audio, gpu, directx) - no difference.

The most interesting that the game is running good for Earth dialogs or Triton dialogs (where there are NPC animations), but Ceres dialog is barely playable (where there is simply a background image). I didn't manage to pass through all the Ceres dialog options yet. I'm not getting why there is so big difference between the dialogs.

Combat normally works fine, but when I destroy a ship the game freezes for few minutes, then runs normally again, and so on.

We are testing a potential fix for the ceres dialog now.

Hi all,
i just bought Star control lately.

My PC set up is as follows:
I5 3570 @ 4,2 Ghz , 16GB RAM ; ASUS Nvidia GTX 660TI ; ASUS P8Z77

This setup does any game (Fall out, Il 2 , Shadow of TR, WoWShips,KDC, to name some )Ultra whithout problems .
After around 20hrs of playtime i received heavy screenfreezings especially when when going on planets with lander.EWspecially the planets with lots of loot and drones or vulkans .#
Then the game is actually not playeble anymore.
i have to try to abort the ground mission. if not klilled i can try to harvest the next planet.

it also apears whil starting the laoding time is about 2 mins. Bujt then the gam,e runs till planets come along.
Or i have a communication with ab other secies.

I set all graphics down to lowest posible -No change
I set all graphics to highest lvl - No change
I went into local files and made a search for corrupted files - No change.

If any one has an idea your welcome

If Tusler is the answer how do i use it and where can i find it? I am just a user.

Can you zip the contents of your "my games" folder? It will have a path similar to this:
C:\Users\bob\Documents\My Games\Star Control

Please post the zip file on a file sharing service (like dropbox) and we'll try to reproduce the problem here.

I'm also experiencing extremely choppy performance, but only in sections with the still art backgrounds (i.e. investigating ruins) looks like CPU use spikes on these sections for some reason.

Windows 10 Pro
Intel i5-2500k CPU
12GB ram
12,000MB paging file
Radeon R9 390 GPU

Try BES (Battle Encoder Shirase)
Free software that controls per-process CPU usage: an “active” software CPU cooler.

I had the same problem and this really helped me a lot.
