Please read IF: Can't start up game/Crash at launch/Ogre exception/How to open Configuration!
If you experience any of these issues, please read below how to fix the problem!

Instructions of how to solve the above mentioned problems/how to open the Configuration tool (working in most cases)
  • run the configuration tool once again (open Steam library and either double left click the game in the left column
    OR
    left click over Play
    In both cases, a window will pop up.
    Choose Configure and click Play to open the Configuration tool --> set whatever you want --> press Exit. Then click Play again and choose Play Running With Rifles)
  • try reinstalling (manually and as an Admin) the OpenAL driver (link from the FAQ).
    Also, the OpenAL Installer can be found in the Main game folder: ~\steamapps\common\RunningWithRifles\_CommonRedist\OpenAL\2.0.7.0
  • try reinstalling the game/verify Integrity of Game Files
  • make sure your PC meets the minimum recommended requirements for running the game (Store Page - System Requirements)
  • check out for the latest video drivers
  • check which rendering device you use in case you have more than one
*Additionally, a game/steam/PC restart might be required!


At last - If you've tried all the solutions above and nothing helped, please open the:
%appdata%/running with rifles
directory (press Windows+R --> copy paste the address --> Enter/OK) and send the rwr_game.log as well as rwr_crashdump.dmp & rwr_config.log (if such exists) files to: support@osumiagames.com by providing info about your OS, hardware, etc and link this thread for reference in the email body!

Hi, I moved this to support as I highly doubt that this is a bug.
Do you get any error message or just nothing happens?
Did you check your antivirus if it somehow disabled the access to the rwr_game.exe ?
I guess you restarted your computer since last time you tried as something on your end might be stuck which tends to get fixed by a reboot.

Nothing happens. Steam only show that I have turn it on then, returns to his previous online state. Antivirus quarantine list is clear. Reboot also dosen't helped. Maybe regedit somthing?

There was such a glitch with me recently, I installed Steam on a new computer and downloaded the RWR again. it did not start. I had to install OpenAll with my hands

Hey,
did you try running the "Config" tool first? The one option you can choose when starting the game on Steam aside from "starting Running with rifles" ?
Did you try to disable your virus scanner/firewall in case this could cause troubles?
Looks like you don't even own the game though?

Another potential solution to the Ogre DirectX9 line 528 issue, if you have "configurable graphics" or anything similar -

I just ran into this problem and solved on my old laptop (AMD HD7730M) with configurable graphics, where you can choose on which programs to use the graphics card vs integrated graphics.

You must make sure both "rwr_config.exe" AND the actual game "rwr_game.exe" are both using the graphics card, and not the integrated card. Otherwise it sounds like the config and the game are out of sync.

Game doesn't boot up fully, then crashes
It shows me a black config screen (both options do this) and crashes itself within five seconds. Verified integrity, no problems found. Downloaded OpenAL and reinstalled, no difference. As far as I can tell, no crash reports either.

I recognize the last post was in January, but some support would be highly appreciated.

我是Win10系统，昨天我吃着火锅唱着歌打开下好的游戏后(带DLC)，steam显示突然从停止游戏跳到了启动游戏，几次都是这样，根本打不开；我就直接打开exe文件提示我缺少dll文件，但安装好后依然打开不了。有兄弟有相似情况吗？求助。
I am using Win10 system. Yesterday I opened the game (with DLC), and the steam display suddenly jumped from ‘stopping the game’ to ‘starting the game’. Have you tried doing a fresh install? Try deleting all files and trying again.

Before running the game again, double check the process has fully ended as well by force ending in task manager. A couple games kind of "ghost" so you can't launch them again until you force the process down.

I apologise I'm not much help here, I'll post this thread on the discord and see if anybody else can give better advice.
