I did play this game with the steam controller, and it is definitely playable like that. In fact, the steam controller works almost out of the box without any real issues - much better than with a lot of other games. At least for sp, i am sure in online play I would not be accurate enough maybe.
Another thing: with the steamdeck coming, I can imagine that a lot of players will want to try rwr with it.
use reWASD...will work with ease.
As well as gamers. All believe a Mouse and keyboard are superior. DEAD WRONG. 20 years ago sure, but not today. The Elite 2 is proof and my skills with it are more proof.
Yea, I wonder how it will go without is having to do anything on our end.
Looking at the Steam Deck design, it "could" indeed work similar to the Steam Controller.
Having a trackpad on the right side is an absolute must-have for aiming, so this is at least a good thing. As for the camera position, it might be a bit problematic. In RWR the camera is much further away than the usual top-down shooter, hence why everything could look a bit too small on the small 7 inch screen (make a screenshot of RWR and open it full screen on your smartphone to get an idea. Phones being roughly 6 inches nowadays are close enough). It could be solved by having a different camera distance but would, on the other hand, require shorter bullet decays, smaller AI view distances, etc.
Maybe someone would then do it as a mod, but it obviously wouldn't be compatible with multiplayer, and even if it would be the case, it would be frustrating compared to PC players who have a significantly further view distance.
But well, maybe the Steam Deck experience with RWR will be good enough right from scratch, as I doubt we'd spend some time in optimizations for that matter.
When can we expect local Co-Op or split screen for 4?

We still definitely wouldn't have added controller support without working on a proper Steam Deck implementation and would therefore remain in the "stone age". That's just how it is.
I don't doubt issues will show up as time goes on with the auto-aim grabbing the 'wrong' targets.
