Voiceacting for linda
Hi there,

the game is realy great. But it would be cool to have some voice for linda. Short sentences that she says randomly (like in daylight). For example:

"i think i heard something"
"whats this?"
"its so cold!"
etc

It would also fit perfect for the freeroam DLC

i noticed it too. also she dont have emotionals. wonder why no own personality.

It would be ok as long as she didn't say "Who's there?" 20 times in a row like in Daylight. But if she did talk it would disconnect you from the game, making it feel like you are living her story. Silent protagonists are used to identify with the character more, making it feel like it is just as much your story too.

I don't mind that she doesn't talk. It lets you take her role instead of seeing her as a character.

She does show emotion in my opinion, when she's interacting with her friend. I was actually curious if she's mute in the story.

No, these random lines break the immersion and illusion that you are in the world of the character. You can express emotion WITHOUT voice acting, did you even know that?

I haven't been able to play more than a few minutes since it came out (been stuck at work getting them OT hours). I really liked the opening with Linda and Ira (was that her friend's name?) were goofing around outside the school. A great example of what Evil just said "emotion without voice acting".

In any event, I would prefer to keep Linda silent outside of combat 'grunts' or even cut-scenes. When I'm running around doing stuff and getting caught up in the atmosphere of a horror game nothing ruins that feeling faster than my character running his/her mouth.

I would love that Linda would speak in the game.

I would like it if she spoke during the cutscenes at least. The cutscene before it gets dark adds a lot to her character, but the combination of the other characters not being near as well rendered and her lack of speaking both made it a little hard to really develop an emotional attachment to either of them.

Linda is better this way for now. Of course, some voice for Linda is good as well but I think Linda's silent personality and less expression face are connected to DreadOut story making both of DreadOut gameplay and story stronger. I agree with Evil incarnate and Ringo that some random lines will only ruin the immersion and illusion both the character and atmosphere that game have created.
I think it will be a good idea to hear Linda's voice in the end of the game. Like South Park - The Stick Of Truth. ^^

That would be hilarious though. Probably the line will be, they all going to go to another trip and Linda says, "I'm done" or sort of funnier word xD
Why she doesn't make ANY sound at all? Tell me. I haven't seen a mute person who doesn't make any sound. She's ghost, ain't it? :D

I don't think mute protagonists really click. You know, people know Gordon Freeman because he is mute and has no face and no legs. Not because we are attached to him. His famous because he is not there - no body, no voice, no back story. We can attach ourselves to characters, we can be a character, but we cannot substitute a character if there is none.
Name any horror game of the past - they always had strong protagonists, but you were them. You were that guy running through foggy town. There was a hole.

Linda is no mute, you hear her breath or when she is hurt, they even have a voice actress for her in the credit.

I think a speaking character is always stronger then a silent protagonist. All the Fatal Frame characters are talking. It help a lot to create emotional attachment to those. It wouldn't work in Fatal Frame 2 if Mio was mute and Mayu not.

I think keeping her silent is better.

Why ? I thin k it's unatural and feels weird.. Mass Effect was such a better immersive game with a talking Sheppard then relying on a silent protagonist.

I completely agree. Though in horror games I do like it when the character speaks in cutscenes,
I absolutely hate it when they speak in-game. Nothing breaks my immersion more than hearing my character go "Who's there?", "♥♥♥♥♥♥♥♥♥!" and the like. If I'm projecting myself on to that character, the last thing I want to hear is my character randomly talking/shouting.

Well, there are two kind of main characters in many games. I think, Linda is better with mute-version. It makes me remember about Half Life series, Golden Sun *Yes, GBA version*, Chrono Trigger *Snes*, Call of Duty Modern Warfare Series, and many more. I feel like... *insert your word-of-imagination here*

Since Linda's already mute at the very beginning (especially in demo version), makes her speak too much will completely destroy the atmosphere. If it's a movie, that's a different story.

~It's my opinion~
