2k launcher 'cannot-download-updates'

Has anyone else had this problem? I try launching the game from steam, the 2k(rap) launcher shows up, but I get a popup saying "cannot-download-updates"

Anyone know a way of working around it or fixing it? Thanks a bunch.

I'm having the same problem. I've been able to run the game by launching the executable in the binaries folder, but I keep getting "Red Screen" error messages popping up all the time. For some reason, after the newest launcher installs itself, it tries to look for more updates, fails and then bombs out with that message. Really frustrating.

I've actually gone to task manager to see if a 2K launcher is still running. End-Task that sheet and it works now. But I know what you mean with the red screen thing. Was kinda fun in chimera to see the dev_breach test mode.

please, no one from the 2k launcer team would just make up new steam account to get people to give them info lol please. Just report the person everyone get them off the forums. A whole 3 posts, new account, and wanting you to talk to them. NOT

So there is a way around having the launcher not break into the game. Could you give me a little more detail please?

So I'm assuming whenever you try launching the game, the 2k launcher says 'cant download updates' right? So I went to the task manager (ctrl+alt+del on windows) and under 'Background processing' I noticed a 2k launcher was still running. So I 'End Task'ed it and tried re-launching xcom from steam and it seemed to work.

They're probably setting-up a scam. If they were an actual developer, they'd have a special tag by their username.

A fully functional game has been broken by an unnecessary patch to change the launcher. Fix this Steam. Don't play stupid games and say that 2k is at fault. The program starts in the Steam launcher before the redirect to 2k. All Steam has to do is remove the redirect to the 2k launcher to fix this.

It's different if it was another user trying to help out but, as TheNiTrex pointed, they should have an identifier that shows they're an official developer/employee. When they impersonate officials, you should be more wary.

I honestly didn't know that was a thing, or my brain failed to remember/realize that was a thing.

kinda funny cause I already said that I fixed it. Mostly. Just if the update can't load, task manager the 2k launcher.

Uhmm, I don't think steam would have the legal right to recode or redirect a company's product.

Fully agree - unnecessary, unuseful, not working peace of crap with misleading message forced me to try various solutions up to reinstall.

to by pass 2k fail launcher just get off your internet lauch the game, then get on your internet and enjoy playing....
