Should I play using Ironman Mode in my first game? (CASE CLOSED)
So when the game gets released I was thinking of actually doing it in Ironman Mode on Easy Difficulty, or else I will simply do it in Normal without Ironman. Do you think the game will still be too hard? Can I make it? I got 80 hours on XCOM Enemy Unknown and I've completed the game 2 times on Normal and Easy, and I've tried out Classic Ironman and Impossible without Ironman. Classic Ironman went ♥♥♥♥ and Impossible worked pretty okay.

Any peoples out there that can recommend to me how I should try out XCOM 2? I don't wanna lose my first game, just have it intense.

EDIT:
Okay I've recieved alot of wonderful answers and I think I'm gonna stick to Normal difficulty but without being a save scum. Reasons are mostly because of gamebreaking bugs at release and to be able to learn the game, yet still have a level of intense and drama because I won't be a save scum.

Thank you for your answers and peace out! :whiterabbit:

I am against Ironman at release simply due to the possibility of game-breaking glitches and corrupt save files escaping Firaxis' QA. If you're willing to risk that, do Ironman, sure.

My first playthrough will be on the difficulty below Legend (forgot the name).

I played through XCOM EU on classic ironman, but even so I'll go without ironman for the start. For the simple reason that so soon after release the game is probably buggy and I'd hate to lose a run due to those.

Just go Legendary/Ironman. Failing often is the point of xcom - to struggle and overcome. You take a lot of joy from yourself when playing through the game on an easier difficulty spoiling all the surprises for you when you go into legendary/ironman afterwards.

If you struggle too much just watch a couple of streams and learn. I will do streaming and probably take in replays of players to help them out and to see what they need to improve on.

To those saying no ironman because of glitches - dont fool yourself. When EU released hardly anyone lost a savegame. If it is corruptness you think about you can manually extract the savegame every session so your loss is limited.

Commander mode, I think?

But yeah, I wouldn't trust the QA enough to go for an Iron Man campaign right out of the gate. I'll be running a standard campaign (probably on 'Commander" difficulty as well), both to make sure the campaign runs smoothly, and to get a better idea of how all the new mechanics work.

After that I'll throw caution to the wind, and dive into an Iron Man campaign.

Just to agree with everyone else, I would except for game breaking bugs. Xcom had them. I have even considered holding off playing at all until after the first inevitable patch.

EDIT: Who am I kidding. I'll be playing the second I get it. I must stop deluding myself.

Well... if you don't wanna lose but have it intense, don't go with Ironman but play at a higher difficulty. + as others said at release I would wait with Ironman due to possible bugs that could be game breaking and make a save file corrupt.

well wouldn't that be part of the intensity right??? maybe losing the file or characters falling through the map??? id think playing on ironman would help toughen up the decision making process atleast and heck the xcom eventually had some kind of bronzeman mode where it allowed something like reloading the maps in the case of glitches or something like that???im guessing that should be around right?

Sure it would add to the intesity but it would also lead to losing. And since OP doesn't want to lose his/her first game, Ironman isn't a save bet to take. And for Bronzeman mode, there surely will come a mod, that will make that possible but not in Vanilla as far as I know.

So firstly you're saying "You take a lot of joy from yourself when playing through the game on an easier difficulty spoiling all the surprises for you when you go into legendary/ironman afterwards." and then you say that I could watch some streams if I struggle, but watching instead of watching streams it would be better to just say "♥♥♥♥ off!" to Ironman Mode?

I'm gonna go ahead and predict that difficulties lower than the second highest (commander?) have "hand-holding" mechanics like increased aim per missed shot, limited amount of aliens on screen, and significantly higher aim for the last soldier alive. I dunno about you, but I found that insulting in EU so I stopped my Normal playthrough and restarted on Classic. If you're really scared of losing hours of progress due to some hardcore mission failures (which does happen often), then don't use Ironman until the moment you're confident about it. And that moment can be either in the middle of a separate playthrough or at the end of one.

Ok I am sorry but saying just go Legendary/Ironman, when not even 2% of all XCOM EU/EW players were able to finish Impossible without Ironman, is kinda nonsence. Sure if you were one of the few, that could beat it on Impossible, I can understand that perspective but that's about it.

I'll likely play on Ironman right off, being a sadist, but not likely anything beyond the default or 1 step up difficulty because I suck at the game (either due to spacing out completely in the midst of play or hyper focusing on just 1 of my squad in a tricky situation, so much so I fail to notice a pod of baddies sneak up behind me).
Torgul 2016 年 1 月 31 日 下午 12:30
I guess you could play it kinda like a rogue like and go ham :). Then start over as needed if needed.

I certainly lost one :/

You know you can always play non ironman but just not cheat. And then when everyone is confident in the game's stability, do your ironman run for the achievement.
Caelinus 2016 年 1 月 31 日 下午 12:49
Yeah, at launch your best bet will be to play off iron man, and then just do not save scum. It may take a little discipline, but it is by far the safest route, and will be what I am doing.
