I'm supposed to take out enemy targets and plant C4. So I move my squad into concealed positions. Then the game seems to insist that I move them out of concealment in order to shoot - and then my squad gets gutted.
I will NEVER understand why some video games are designed to be so non-intuitive. Either I'm getting old (31) - or some game devs these days have a very distorted view of what good game design is. Uninstalled.
The tutorial is basically scripted and it kind of screws you over in the long run. I'd suggest doing the tutorial once to learn the controls and experience the lore(if you care), then start a new game without it.
Yes, soldiers dying in the tutorial are scripted.
Not quite sure what you mean by main character, there is no player character on the tactical layer except on the final mission.
Stuck behind a car: gonna need a screenshot to help you on this. Are you playing the steam version or the epic game version?
In the real game there are no scripted deaths, soldiers will only die if you make a mistake.
If you mean that you lost concealment when you started shooting, that's whats supposed to happen. Gunshots are loud, loud noises + concealment = no more concealment.
Nevermind dude. I've uninstalled. Some games I'm simply too stupid to understand. Happened the other day with Dead Space 3 as well. That's just how it is.
The full tutorial continues through your first Guerilla Op and ends when you set the first engineer to work, but it's only in this intro section that you can only do what the game tells you. Everywhere else you make the choice (for the most part).
It's a call out to the previous XCOM, where only the Argentine dude survives the tutorial mission. Here, only Jane Kelly survives.
It's just like those mobile games where you can do nothing but do as the game tells you to do until the tutorial finishes.
IMO, it's terrible design for a tutorial, but I don't see the game at fault here.
Sometimes it clicks and sometimes it doesn't. I love Bastion by Supergiant Games. I have all achievements on all levels of difficulty. The same studio then made Transistor. I love the world, the art, the sound - but I don't understand the mechanics, at all. I tried earlier today.
Probably played through Dead Space 1 more than 10 times. Got to play Dead Space 2 the other day. Made it to the end. Enjoyed it so much. No difficulty.
Then I try 3 - and I just can't. I don't understand the systems, mechanics, etc.
I played the hell out of Fallout New Vegas. Hundreds upon hundreds of hours in that game. Never had issues with it. Just started playing Fallout 3 and got thoroughly stuck.
It's really sad. I wish it wasn't like that. Usually with games like that I end up just watching a Long play on YouTube. If I sit there myself and fail endlessly I get very sad, self-conscious and such....
Basic tips try and focus on high cover and don't gorup up your team.
Draw a straight line from every posistion and make sure each of your team covers a flanking spot.
If a flanking spot is available the enemy AI will almost always take it to shoot ( you can also use this to your advantage )
I often try games but give up because they are too difficult or complicated. But there are also some games that I gave another try and ended up loving to bits.
That's why I'd like to urge you to give it another try.
This game is very hard if you don't know anything about it.
Start on the lowest difficulty setting and keep in mind that the first couple of missions are the hardest in the game.
I started out on Commander difficulty and got annihilated.
Tuned down to Rookie and climbed up from there.
I now play Legendary ironman and have over 2k hours played....the game is just that good.
Well I mean the OP started out by saying they are stupid. Which turned out to be right.
:(
A big part of this game is that you WILL lose team members. The tutorial does this in a particularly ham-fisted way, but it is a lesson to learn.
