Playing WotC with Integrated DLC? That's what happens. You get to build SPARKs and Alien Hunters weapons but miss out on the story missions.

THAT'S why I could do that. Okay. Well I wish I knew that, because I really liked the story missions, and was having the same question that Neon here has.

In WotC you can disable the integrated Option and enable the Story Missions at the start of the campaign. But be aware, that the Storymissions are NOT balanced for WotC. Your Soldiers will be seriously fatigued,up to all have negative traits, upon completing those missions. Especially the Lost Towers Mission.

Yeah, Firaxis really screwed that up. I hadn't played XCOM 2, starting it fresh with WotC. I stuck with Integrated DLC because it was the default. Didn't realize integration meant "Removed the story missions". I'm sure they could have put a fatigue limiter or eliminator on the Tower and Nest missions. Instead, I just see a Spark available in Engineering, and wonder what the heck a Spark is...and run into Alien Rulers with Central and the others talking about Dr. Vahlen like I should have any clue what they're talking about. Very, very sloppy.

The reason they disabled the DLC story missions was, with Lost and Abandoned, there were a lot of story missions begging for the player's attention in the early game.

You can agree or disagree with that decision but it was a conscious one and not a sloppy mistake.

This is just my opinion but I feel that WoTC was a complete mess. Not only did they change the code so a majority of gampleay/ui mods did not carry over they forgone the tacical side of XCOM 2 (LW) for a shiny new coat of paint. I really miss the infiltration aspect of XCOM 2 (LW) or making your squads so you can have them premade.

Or how they rolled commanders choice into the training center - only to let it go in WoTC. When I fight the choosen I am more annoyed than surprised or fearful.

"What's that you stunned my guy. Okay..." - Commander. That is my thought process when I fight the assassin. I don't get scared or rethink my tactis I simply just go... meh. It's so frustrating to me because they didn't have to overhaul everything for the junk they added in. Adding in fatigue; sure sounds cool; but not at the cost of removing squads. I heard people say they had to change the code because it would be too much to add squads and fatigue. That makes no sense as in XCOM 2 (LW) your troops got wounded and taken out for missions with squads.

I apologize for hijacking your thread I am just so frustrated with WoTC - I really really wanted to like it but I just get more annoyed by all the uneeded changes.

XCOM 2 is a mess in general, LW2 fixed some of the issues, but it wasn't enough, and WotC just exacerbated them. Hope they're working XCOM 3 and not another expac, they need to let this game go.

From what I understand there will be no XCOM 3 but I think... Phoniex Rising?

I feel like they had so many ideas that nothing got grounded. What with the removal of the squad system in favor of a faitgue penalty that does not even make sense in the slightest. The removal of re-classing your veteran troops in favor of re-training abailitis. And don't even get me started on covert missions in WoTC; what a complete waste and a joke of a system.

As I stated eariler. Xcom 2 (LW) felt like they had a good general idea of what it would be like to do guerilla warfare but then threw it all out the window with WoTC.
Dragon32 May 28, 2018 @ 5:26am
But Long War was a mod by Pavonis Interactive (nee Long War Studios), it wasn't made by Firaxis. So you can't really say they removed things (squads, infiltration) which weren't there in the first place. Long War 2 is a great mod, but that's what it is a mod and not the released game.

Personally I'm a big fan of XCOM 2 and WotC, but I understand it's not everyone's cup of tea.

There's a few threads on Reddit documenting what appears to be another DLC being made (unclear whether it's expansion sized or smaller) and, based on the sales of XCOM 2, I think an XCOM 3 in a few years is a safe bet.

There will be an XCOM 3, XCOM 2 did really well, so 2K will want a sequel. You're thinking of Phoenix Point, which is a Tactical TBS made by the original creator of X-Com.

You’ve got to remember though, Long War is just a mod, not the game itself. Yes it had support and backing from the Devs, but it’s not cannon, and not official. Trust me, I loved the Long War mods for both XCOM games, but I can understand the decisions they made. Though why they rewrote the code in such a drastic way, then decided to cut ties with with the Long War devs, I’ll never know.

They rewrote the code in such a drastic way because WotC changed so much. Enemy Within is like a bolt-on, WotC touched so many different subsystems

It's under NDA between 2K and Pavonis Interactive but I think Pavonis spent a few months looking at WotC and working out how much effort it'd be to port LW 2 to WotC. 2K looked at that quote and decided not to spend the cash, for whatever reason.

You can choose that. First you can do it like the Standard X in integrated to WotC.

Or you chose WotC and mark the other two DLC´s seperatly [Alien Hunter, Shens last gift]. I did the Second thing after playing through the normal Variant (integrated). Works fine and the Storymissions with the Videos from the other 2 are coming normal.

Have played Shens Last gift Mission last Weekend and fighting against the Chosen. First Mission from Alien Hunter too to find the first Spezial Weapons.

I did not realize that. And thank you for correcting me about the name of the upcoming game.

You're absolutly right about!

When I added parenthesis around LW I was more or less being indicative of it. Even without LW XCOM 2 (vanilla) is still (IMO) superior; as far as gameplay/tactics are concerned. I believe someone mentioned this in the thread, that WoTC was an overhaul, while EW was more of a tradional DLC; if I had known that when I watched the trailor I wouldn't have spent the money.

Maybe I am in the minority, but, when I watched the trailer to WoTC I thought it was just going to add while preserving what made XCOM 2 great and even including bits of LW, like the fatigue system. Which I feel is lackluster all on it's own. I hope when XCOM 3 is being made they look back at LW and just... just make it like it should be.

I doubt it but I am hoping.
