XCOM 2

"pure virtual function being called while application was running (GIsRunning == 1)"
I just purchased the PC Steam version XCOM 2 as a package with all the DLC 3 days ago and I am immensely disappointed. So far I have 20 hours into this game and more than half of those hours have been spent trying to correct the crash with the error msg "pure virtual function being called while application was running (GIsRunning == 1)" Apparently this crash has been well known almost since the game was initially released. Does anyone know of a fix for this? I am about to delete all Local Content and reload from scratch without installing any of the DLC stuff. Any help would be sincerely appreciated.

I think something got deleted in memory and when it attempts to call on that object it not there resulting in crash. Try reloading game and see it still happens.

Mark, thank you for your advice. OK, I deleted all local content and reacquired & reinstalled the game. Now to see if it works.

I've got the same error message. Nothing worked so far on both GFX980 and GFX660 / WIN10. Also tried the Long War 2 mod with Red Fog disabled.

I think that uninstall button is the best fix available for now because as we can read on 2k forums support is not doing anything to fix this bug.

Strange as i have not encountered this error on my rig. Running fine with 16GB ram / GTX980ti 6GB.

If i do encountter it ill do some trouble shooting.

Happens sometimes to me when it's loading new textures. I think it's related to mods, not really sure if I got it while playing vanilla too though.

the error seems related to the unreal engine..
i found some help for unreal engine 4..
but.. i think it wont help much, hence xcom2 is using unreal engine 3..
but.. at least we know where the error most likely comes from..!?!

I was in contact with their support on this, and we figured out it was the Shens Legacy causing it. Disabled that dlc, did a file check and didn't have a crash since. Now i'm using it again with some mods, and i'm seeing this every now and then.
The support representative i was in contact with said a patch was in the works to fix shens legacy, but this was back in october, and still nothing. So dunno whats going on.

If you continue to experience this Pure Virtual Function crash after it is installed. Rest assured that our team of Engineers and Scientists are working on making sure that you have the best experience possible in XCOM 2 and we have several ongoing projects at our base in order to rectify some of the current issues with the game.

Unfortunately, these teams have not updated us on their progress and we are currently awaiting news regarding a resolution to the issues encountered. However if you get a different crash error please let us know.

I was also having this issue every time i tried to play the game, It worked really well for quite a while then this "pure virtual function" drama started, Tried all sorts of solutions, reinstalled, verified files etc and nothing worked, then out of desperation i tried someones suggestiobn which was. Verify files and run it from the GeForce Experience app and it has been running really well since, no crashes at all. Weird i know but worth a try.

To the poster, I have this error when I overclock my CPU to 4.3Ghz. So basically I just dial down my overclock to 4.2ghz or 4.1ghz then im good. (Im using a fx8320 cpu + gtx 1070 gpu in case you wanna know)

low on ram or typo in mods code are 2 reason it will happen.

IT WORKS :D !
i had that supershit annoying error: GIsRunning == 1
everytime when i wanted to look at the black market and the game was a dead end when i wanted to change/select soldiers for a mission.
it took me some reinstalls, but i wanted to play this Long War 2 mod pretty bad.. and now:
IT WORKS :D !

i did a lot of things, so i cant tell what the problem was.
but i think the most important was this one thing:

reinstalling the 2012 microsoft.NET framework.
there is a file in the xcom folders:
Head to your library > Right click XCOM2 > Local Files > Browse Local Files > _CommonRedist > DotNet > 4.5.1 > NDP451-KB2872776-x86-x64-AllOS-ENU.exe > Restart your PC

i can imagine that only doing this and "verify integrity of game files" in staem can even fix the game. (right click xcom > poperties > local files).

just to tell you what else i did:
1.) i did install the 2012.NET framework (as i just mentioned)
2.) uninstalled xcom 2
3.) removed all folders i found remaining in documents/my games... but i safed my character pool and could paste it in after reinstalling... so i m not sure if that is something one has to do.
3.)unsubscriped from all mods.
in steam you can let it show you all mods you subscriped to.
after my game worked fine again, i subbed to all mods i liked and i knew they work with LW2.
4.)reinstalled the game via steam.
5.) started the game via geforce experience center, but only 1 time. now i just start over steam and its all fine.

i also improved my performance some time before that.. and it was somehow still changed after the reinstall.. if i remember right.. (i reinstalled 2 or 3 times.. sorry i cant remember when i changed it.
you just search for "xcomengine" or "engine" as the author of the post wrote:
http://steamcommunity.com/app/200510/discussions/0/846960628563773260
just a tip: if you wanna do these changes, use the windows search option, to find the lines you wanna change. just copy them from the page, and search in the file by pressing CTRL + F.

thats all for now.
good luck people.

**EDIT**
i remember i did 2 more things:
1.) i uninstalled a microsoft.NET framework from 2015, just standard deinstall via windows.
i had 2 of those in the list.. i uninstalled the smaller one.
2.) i increased my virtual memory to something superhigh (16000mb to 24000mb).
but i just changed that back to "system controlled" and the game still works fine.
but if you wanna try that, here is how to:
