Stupid Supply crate ♥♥♥♥♥♥♥♥
So, playing a supply raid mission where you have to mark crates; there are crates that I can see, and there are no Advent forces around it; they'd be engaged with me, or dead by me; and yet the bloody creates just get magically marked for Advent; especially considering you have only the next turn to mark it for yourself.

How in blazing hells are you supposed to get any crates like this! This is idiotic!

Generally there are not that many advent and you don't need to take crates which are marked. You can pick up any crate you want. Which means splitting up your forces responsibly and picking up any visible crate will help you out in the long run.

Also if you are lucky enough to have a chossen spawn in a supply mission.
Crates do not get picked up until the Chossen is defeatd.

You know that your phone has a GPS locator that allows you see the phone's location on a website, right? But no, magic space gods could never come up with technology more advanced than the 1970s - they need to send out infantrymen to comb through the ruins to locate the missing crates.

especially considering you have only the next turn to mark it for yourself.
Assuming for the sake of argument that this is indeed the case - there are 12 crates. The aliens mark one crate per turn, so instead of a single turn you actually get 12.

All of the "mobility" and "Dodge" bonuses from covert ops have been mostly going to one Specialist (in my current game )who can hack the brain of any target she can see, as well as make rapid run and recovery of any objective...if she isn't stunned, mindcontrolled or pinned down by enemy fire :P

Enemy units have nothing to do with crates being marked. It's essentially a timer, with random crates getting marked each turn.

Your priority should be to run to all the crates you can get to and mark them for yourself, then, secondarily, to kill enemies.

What do you even get from the crates? Some tiny amount of supplies? Who cares?

I know this is irrelevant from a gameplay perspective, but those crates originally belonged to ADVENT. That's why they're already marked; ADVENT already knows where the crates are.

You, as XCOM, are stealing the crates. That's why you have to send your guys right up to them and mark them for yourself.

Don't go for the crates. Try to kill all the enemies, and only mark crates you happen to pass by. Marking them is a free action, so unless doing it would lose you a shot, mark them and move on.

Then they wouldn't be neutral and then get tagged afterward, won't they? They'd just be ready to be picked up right from the start; in fact, why would there need to be any advent present, just send the ship to pick them up one by one and be done. You should pay attention to the bloody concept of what's happening, not to mention the gameplay

They mark 2 per turn.

Yes, that would be the problem. The whole narrative of the mission as you keep watch of the mission briefing and Bradford's messages is that "Advent IS OUT THERE marking the crates", but instead the crates just get marked on their own after a timer, instead of that Advent is out there actually marking the crates.

How to get your squad annihilated 101.

They mark 2 every other turn. So on average its 1/turn. I agree tho, that it would of made more sense to have advent actually sending units to mark. But I guess that would of been too much programming.

NO, they are NOT already marked, they GET marked. They go from a neutral orange, to blue if you mark them, and red if Advent magically marks them. The whole concept of the mission is that Advent is out there marking them, and you're out there marking them. If they were already marked, Advent wouldn't need to be out there marking them, their drop ships could jsut pick them up without ever sending Advent physically down there.

Christ, why do I have the feeling that idiots who don't even play the game come to tell me I'm wrong for my critisism of this ♥♥♥♥♥♥ mechanic.

Yep, the reason for this (and with the citizens randomly getting killed in the first's terror missions) is that the enemies barely have any AI and they are not activated until you activate them not being able to do much. But I thought that with the vanilla retaliation mission actual aliens actually shooting the civilians that they had a way around it. But nope, this mission, the nonsense is right back.

It is almost as if these crates are ADVENT crates to begin with, and have an automatic transponder system in them that activates when the system determines they're 'lost' and you are comming and trying to steal them before that happens.

Crate missions are weak sauce.

Again: THEN WHY THE ♥♥♥♥ IS ADVENT THERE! Why is the entire mission debriefing all about ADVENT being there to get the crates, as in on the ground doing what you're doing? Why is the constant in-mission communiques from Bradford all about hurrying BEFORE ADVENT gets all the crates?

If they just activate on their own after while, there is no need to send any advent after the crates; just circle above the crash site, wait till they activate, pick them up, and fly away. No need to deal with the lost and anyone else who might be down there; and since there's no actual advent on the ground, the crates are less likely to be spotted by anyone who would want them.

I ONCE AGAIN look at someone barging with the same nonsense as if they never actually played WOTC. Christ.
