How to change Classes?

I want to make a Ranger
but the character instead got promoted into a Grenadier.
How do I change class?

and... if its a mod, does it disable achievements?

once you build the guerrilla tactics school you can train rookies for 5 days to get a specific class.

theres a continent or resistance order that promotes then to the sargent rank with this process. which if you got early enough would be pretty awesome.

Ah Bugger. My character is already a Squadie.

You cannot use this mod if the game already assign a class to your squad, you need to use GTS.

If you really want a ranger, and cannot wait for 5 days or other reason, I think.... you can enable console mode and add a ranger.

Some people may think enable console mode just like cheating, but one or some command really can fix bug.
Like XCOM2 vanilla, I experienced one soldier just cannot move, so he couldn't evac, use teleport command can solve this bug.

Anyway, different class different strategy, those are your squad, commander.

You can not change. What you can do is the first chartacter that does become a ranger, you customize into your favorite soldier, and you customize the grenadier into someone else.

If you are not playing iron man, next time, before you promote, save the game, then reload and promote until you get what you want - although you need to understand that the game will always try to make you have an even number of each class until you have three of everything - so if you have 2 of everything, and a third of everything but a sharpshooter, the next promotion will always be a sharpshooter, always.

I didnt understand the "Prename Name"

I typed it as

*Console Code* Pika Pikachu Ranger
but nothing happens.

without mods, and without ironman running, you have a crew of rookies and save game just before killing the last standing alien on the map.
Then you will notise in what order the promotions are delivered, then you reload, and promote your soldiers in that same order to get your rookies to be what you want. Easyest way to do it imo.

best work with rookies only teams, if you only got one rookie on the team then you are left with only one option.

it is just change class, just like what you want, but that squad will turn into squaddie (he/she will either promote or demote)

Go to XCOM2's launch options and add in the line "-allowconsole -log -autodebug" without quotation marks. Once you're done, you can open the console from in-game using the tilde (~) key.

Let say the game assign Pika Pichachu as Grenadier, so you want to assign to ranger, then the command is:
MakeSoldierAClass "Pika Pikachu" Ranger

If Pikachu were high rank soldier, and you want to level up his rank, you can try this mod:

Because official console command can only promote to all soldiers


You can still install Command's Choice for next time if you want to choise class for your rookie promotion.
