XCOM 2

Anybody else find Skirmishers a little underwhelming?
Don't get me wrong, I don't find them bad by any means; they're definitely useful. I just mean in comparison to Templars and Reapers.

Templars can do absurd damage at high focus to both individual enemies and large groups of them, and can make themselves entirely immune to the next attack. They can also instantly get closer to enemies while simultaneously pulling one of them out of cover by switching with one of them.

Reapers are nigh undetectable, can attack multiple times before breaking concealment (and can enter it again once per mission at will), can deal large group damage if claymore is used properly, and do an absolutely ridiculous amount of individual damage with Banish (as in basically instantly kill anything if you have a high enough magazine size), especially if used in tandem with homing mine.

Skirmishers just seem to well, I dunno, be very mobile and can draw enemies out of cover with their hooks? Their primary weapon is also pretty weak compared to other weapons in the game. Am I just using them wrong?

Skirmish are my least favourite aswell but there was a post last week calling Templars the weak ones. I do not think it is the case that any are weak I think it is all about playstyle.
Probably not, but I've been rolling two Skirmishers in my A-team to great effect at Commander difficulty so it's more than likely a matter of taste.

Skirmisher is good with Beta Strike enabled. Without it you need to use mods to make Intercept and Battle Lord and maybe Zap lash Cooldown abilties instead of limited use.

I actually like both the Reapers and Skirmishers. Its the templars i'm still having trouble with considering mine sucks at lottery and drew useless XCOM skills instead of somethin like bladestorm or Reaper =-=.

My skirmisher in my game have the retaliate skill. Anything going close to him get a slash. At level two, as far as I've seen so far, any slash mean an auto stun for 2 turns. And there is 2 skills you get early which allow you to slash and those skills are not on use, they are on a timer.

Basically, early game your skirmisher should be your powerhouse no question even asked. Zip in, slash, count as a free action, use hook to get back to cover, fire twice with your gun... The power projection is immense. Plus if you are fighting lost all you have to do is hook somewhere to safety and fire away.

Not to say that they can actually take punishment. A few shots without dying at least. And that's before you get your first armor.

Yeah Skirmishers are pretty underwhelming overall.

Yes, I'm very unhappy and dissatisfied with my highly mobile fighter able to re-position during fights (sometimes even enemies), take multiple actions (even sometimes during the enemy turn), and stun/apply a fire dot to larger/more dangerous enemies.

If only they could be more useful somehow.

First playthrough and Mox is a god for me. (Commander difficulty).

First time around with Mox did make them feel a bit more 'magical'. I guess that might be why they decided to give us 'faction heroes'.

Need a Batman mod for Skirimishers. That'd make them much more fun when they look like Batman with all their grapple shenanigans.
Tiasmoon Sep 11, 2017 @ 10:18pm
Haha, would be pretty funny to see that in action.

Yeah they definitely need to be buffed
Tenshin51 Sep 12, 2017 @ 12:55am
Agreed it will be cool they could buff its stats like accuracy. Compared to other new class Skirmisher have the lowest accuracy. Seriously for a clone trooper they are much more a stormtrooper.

On some of my missions i run a skirmisher that has a max bond with a ranger. I also run two fully trained PSI operatives, and the PSI operatives also have max bond with one another.

So what i do is that i send him in with wraith armor, i pull people to him, give him one more go 3-4 times with bond and inspire, then i plant a claymore on one of the subjects, pull the skirmisher out or put him in stasis, and then i send in a blaster launcher to finish the entire squad off. Very fun to do :D

Their grapple stuns enemies for 2 turns if it lands? Which is pretty much a panic or an improved stasis.
