No, not at all. You have infinite shots but as soon as you are out of ammo, you're done.
You just need to position your sharpshooter for more accuracy and a scout to increase the line of sight of the sharpshooter.
W/ lost, sharpshooter is a beast if you got a resistance card or a better pistol.
Weapon damage output of sharpshooter still better, sharpshooter role is much more an artillery and a damage dealer. I guess in normal and lower difficulty reaper could replaced sharpshooter but in commander and legendary meh.
Reaper's weapon damage is laughable, from what I remember Reaper's 1st tier weapon damage is 4-5. That weapon damage isn't enough to kill a higher difficulty alien except for 1st tier advent trooper.
And i use 4 Snipers in my Group.
You have to know how to use them thats all.
Reinforcements drops on sharpshooters even if the rest of the squad is occupied with wiping out advent on another side of a hill. You sometime wonder if advent wouldn't needed those reinforcements next to their own units instead of running around in circles trying to hunt the sharpshooter but this is only a way in attempt to balance the game because of how sharpshooters can sit in a location who makes them available to shoot every target in a flanked position.
It too makes a reason why to not have more than one sharpshooter because them will be follow John with the advent reinforcements.
Reapers ability to pretty much guarantee a flank cant be underestimated tho. Or her high hit % due to range. But even more importantly, the ability to hit from stealth and stay undetected.
I dunno much about the differences in difficulty level tho, since I've only played on one so far.
But has Stealth, Claymore, Flanking as big Bonus.
Sniper have hughe Damage and Range. Specialy on Krits.
Gunslinger can shot 3 Times normal and 3 times on Target with a skill.
the point is not to Look on each class seperate.
Look at the combinition.
Reaper and Sniper
Reaper scouts and Sniper shot´s
you can kill big Packs without problem ( but needs time )
You can explode claymore over the hole Map or Target Mission Targets with sniper and Reaper
Use something ( grenade skill ) to destroy the cover and than enjoy a 16 Damage Sniper Krit Flank Shot.
Strong Pistol use Gunslinger
Use Free Fire of Pistol
After that use pistol shot without ending turn and use skill to Fire One Shot on every enemy in sight.
Most of Reapers abilities are meant for mid range combat.
Reaper is essentially a replacement for a Rifleman type unit.
Reapers are better off replacing rangers.
Snipers have been my damagedealer in XCOM 2 vanilla, reapers completely replace them. The loss of a reaper is nearly death to me. xD
