XCOM 2
War of The Chosen black screen
So I've disabled all my mods, uninstalled them to be sure, yet the game loads all the logos fine but rather than loading the main menu a black screen comes up. Music plays in the background but it just stays black for a few minutes before it goes white.

Ive moved XCOM files out of documents, verified game cache and still nothing works.

Any ideas?

Maybe take a look at the resolution in the ini? Also switch to/from fullscreen/windowed? Just suggestions to try, you're the first with this kind of problem I've seen.

I have the exact same problem, tried reinstalling, verified integrity etc and it doesnt work same issues as OP. XCOM2 runs as usual though.

Experiencing same issue as the two above. Reinstalled, deleted mods, verified integrity and getting black screen after all the logos have played.

edit: tried after using 1 and 2 screens, windowed and full window mode, changing resolution with no effect.

Same issue, never used mods

Same issue. Think it is graphics issue with old AMD card but don't get to menu to even adjust the options down. Can I edit an one of the many many ini files to set War of Chosen graphics settings to be same as vanilla XCOM2 which still works (or at least gets to options screen)

Okay I fixed it!
So I gave up on XCOM and moved on to trying to fix another issue with my computer, namely that I couldn't change the brightness.
Long story short, I fixed it by enabling my integrated graphics with Device Manager.
I then launched XCOM 2 and it worked perfectly.
If you guys need help with that I'll explain further and I'm sorry if this doesn't help.

I have the black screen problem here, sometimes happen on open a save, some times when a mission will start. Windowed didnt help, no mods didnt help, with console or not didnt help, and now I cant play the game. Win10, GTX7704GB, NVIDIA drivers up date.

Okay so here are the steps I took

1) Search Device Manager in the Cortana search box

You should be given a program that, when opened, gives a list of options including things like
"Batteries", "Bluetooth", "Computer" etc.

2) Open "Display adapaters"

If like me, you have integrated graphics and a video card, you should be presented with two options respectively.

3) Right click on your integrated graphics option and click Enable.

If this is already enabled or you do not have an integrated graphics option appearing I can't help you. I feel like this was a very specific problem but if it works for you then excellent!

Thanks OccasionalOcelot, but in my case I only have the GTX770 as option :(. I have uninstalled the game, as I cant play it. Sad, I was loving the new expancion.

Hello! Old, but i`m having the same issue as well. You can enable your cpu graphics via the bios (unless your CPU doesn`t have it).

However, with me I`ve tried almost everything. Cleaned up and repasted the Cpu, took apart the GPU and added new arctic silver to that. Installed latest drivers, then the really old drivers. Even changed DP wire to HDMI. Eventually, it`ll crash to black screen needing a hard rest, then on restart I get black screen with cursor and Windows go crazy. I`ve never had a game that crashes like this than affects the rest of the computer as well.

I have only 2 possible options left now:
1. New graphics card.
2. New PSU.
3. Possible new Motherboard. Wait that`s 3 options!

I`ve ordered a new PSU since it`s the cheaper option and I have been a little worried about it`s wattage.

I had to kill the final enemy with a different unit and then it worked, maybe you could try that or restarting the mission.

I have fixed it.

I had the same problem. XCOM 2 worked fine but WotC had a black screen.

I deleted the config files as suggested in a different thread (https://steamcommunity.com/app/268500/discussions/0/1643167006301923293/) but it did not work, however, I saw a glimpse of radeon software menu blurb from my graphics card, which happened for the first time.

I punched ALT+R to bring up the menu and the game window flickered and the game's main menu was brought up. After that I set up my graphics and had no problems further on.

So I had black screen, deleted the config files and started the game, the radeon software menu appeared, I entered it and it worked. I have Radeon HD 7700, if anyone's wondering.

Hope this helped someone, good luck.
