Imo they are the best looking ones. I guess it's personal preferences. Myself, I just dont like old hardware looks (played way too many military games with them, and they really dont look great).

I dread the looks of my squad before tier 2, and semi dread it at tier 2.
T3 armor in X2 looks like a glorified diving suit... But that's just my opinion.
They all kinda suck in the customisation department too. Any patterns look weird on them with their glossy paint jobs.
