XCOM 2
How to stop popping pods ath THE WORST times
It seems every mission i have horrible horrible luck. I think I play cautiously, but when i move like one step to the right and get ♥♥♥♥♥♥♥♥♥♥ by vipers, I know i'm doing something wrong. Is there any way to know where pods are, other than having an upgraded ranger? Thanks.

move your farthest move you will take first... that way when u do pop alien pods you have the rest of your squad ready.
Dont ever advance with your last few soldiers.

What he said. Don't move the rest of your squad into unknown areas unless you're sure you have enough action points left to deal with an activated pod.

Scanning protocol (specialist) and battle scanner can provide you vision of enemy units if you don't want to invest on a stealth ranger.

And a phantom ranger is worth his weight in gold.

This. Don't ever let this guy get revealed until the last pod is left.

Getting somebody on high ground if possible always helps also.

Play multiple Rangers. I play 3 with full squad size.

^The above are crutches. A healthy man should learn to walk on his own. Even if he has to crawl first as a baby.
My general tactic is to move my first guy to the left and forward, the next guy to the right and forward and then have everyone else move anywhere I want to 'tighten the noose' as long as I don't reveal any more map with them. Revealing more map after your first 1 or 2 soldier movements is very risky and should only happen if it's entirely necessary or you know for a fact you won't reveal any more pods.

Basically just only reveal map tiles on your first or second solider movement.

If you are already in a fight, try your damndest not to reveal any more tiles unless it's totally necessary

And yet there are people who complain that the "vanilla" Concealment mechanic is utterly broken or useless.

Those mods I posted rectifies that and makes stealth turtling a "fun" play style :3

Also to each his own I guess...

Much as how you folk rave about Long War 2 which I personally find appalling :P

I personally feel True Concealment should have been in the game originally.
Being able to do recon and decide how to approach a situation.

when playing teams of 4 soldiers i typically try to lead with one character and have him be the farthest out so i dont pop unwanted pods. when it comes to 5 and 6 soldiers i lead a 2 prong lead so i can see left and right before having the others hang behind. also along with having the stealth guy stay stealthy to find pods without poping them start counting tile distances when you do locate one stealthily so you can figure out where you can park your team and still not see them. i thought 18 tiles was maximum sight range...someone help me on that please.

People complained about virtually everything in this game:

"Like Sectoid Mind control OMG SO OP."

"Viper grabs are OP."

"Codex duplicates and disables with AoE and cannot be overwatched - time to nerf Codex!"

Yet Vanilla is perfectly fine if you put in the time to learn to play properly instead of whining or using cheat mods.

That's why you have multiple Rangers with Phantom and Conceal. No need for cheat mods to make the game a cakewalk.
