Stuck on chapter 10 boss amalgam

I can get to the purple phase where it glows and no matter how much I try to hurt it or run, it eats me. They didn't balance this boss very well.
Any tips on how to beat it having in mind that I'm out of any kind of bolts for the crossbow?

Did you waste a lot of bolts on the first phase before it goes agro? If you started the fight with no bolts, that's odd, because it's pretty easy to have bolts or at least a lot of scrap to make them before starting that fight. Even on Nightmare with no upgrades I had plenty by then.

Anyways, the way I always recommend is doing the first phase in stealth by hiding behind a pillar and shooting the eye on the tentacle with the regular pistol, then the human torso that pops up on top when it's stunned (preferably in the head) with a harpoon.

Those are your only two stealth weapons. Using anything else or getting spotted will alert it to your presence. It will take several times doing this before it goes agro, the number of which depends on difficulty mode and upgrades.

Lay down a shock bolt trap between it and you before it goes agro if you can make one from scrap or save one by using stealth. As soon as it goes agro, go into weapon wheel to slow time and switch to explosive bolts (crafted prior), then run into the hallway and lay two on the floor near the red barrels. One near them, and one before it in middle of hallway.

Go back into weapon wheel and craft 2 more explo bolts, run to end of hallway, turn right, and do same near other red barrels past the car. Now shoot it in it's open mouth with your most powerful weapon. It can take only a few flurries of explo bolts to take it out, but if you have no bolts or even scrap at the start, you'll have to use grenades or the sniper rifle from a distance.

Sounds like you may have already tried using the shotgun, which requires closer range and skill at evading. If you still struggle and have no scrap or bolts even at start of the fight, I would consider going back to a part of the game where you had some and try to conserve them or scavenge more scrap.

You could also make use of those rooms on the side to get free hits on him. When you go into them he will try to reach in and grab you, eventually he pulls back for a charge and at that point you can run out to avoid the hit leaving him vulnerable in the process.

If he charges you with his purple mouth and you don't wan't to stand your ground and shoot him then sprinting straight left or right will dodge the charge.

Ive always taken this thing down by using a flash bolt on the eye, then a grenade or two and as many rounds from the shotty as I can before it recovers. repeat, then as soons as that purple aura appears, run away and aim for that openn eye with the sniper rifle. I have yet to try fire arrows on it, and New game+ will give you a limted ammo toy for this situation, though you can use it elsewhere.

I finally did it. As it turns out, switching to M&K makes shooting and evading so easy that special bolts and nades are not needed, just with some aiming and evading skills is enough to make it.
