LOW FPS SOLVED
OK my system runs all current games very well,,,, why not this one?!!??!
Asus 970 Pro Gaming
FX-8370 @ 5GHZ
16GB DDR3 @ 1866mhz
RX 480 @ 1450mhz core and @ 2200mhz ram
Samsung 850 EVO SSD's
All water cooled!!!
Running at 1080P im getting 8-25 fps its so laggy i can barly gety through the menue.. once the game starts its uplayable

SOLVED
1.Go to steam library
2.Select The Evil Within
3.Properties
4.Set Launch Options and type in +r_swapinterval 0
5.Select OK

The opening credits may be at low fps but when the game starts you will be running fine. The Frame limiter built into the game is causing the FPS drops due to software/hardware conflicts The launch option +r_swapinterval 0 dissables the frame limiter. But if you mess with the video options after that you will have to restart again because that will overide the launch option you added

I hope this helps anyone who was having problems

I just tried playing this after downloading the DLC. It ran at around 50 FPS before but now I too am getting really low frame rates - has there been a recent patch that has broken the game?

I just installed the game today so I do have the newest version. . no other patches i am aware of

I found out earlier today you need to go into the game launch option in steam and put in

+r_swapinterval 0

This removes the frame limiter that is the cause of the problem. Now i am around 80FPS. The opening credits are still at 8fps but thats not big deal to me

Thanks for the advice. I actully fixed my problem by rolling back my drivers. I recently installed 17.1.1 so rolled back to 16.12.1 which was the driver I originally played the game on and now it's fine. Those drivers also broke Dead Space for me - it messed up the mouse responsiveness and caused flickering and artrifacts but it's fine again now that I'm back on 16.12.1. Guess 17.1.1 should be avoided for now unless you are specifically playing Resident Evil 7 (which I've already completed).

Wow. It actually works. Didn't bother trying to disable it because i was getting below 60 so i thought disabling a frame limiter would be pointless since I can't reach the limit but now I'm getting 70-80 FPS. Good ♥♥♥♥

@ OP I have no idea what that does, but I too, have increased smoothness as a result.

Thanks for this, took me from a solid 12 FPS to over 80! I'm running an AMD RX 480 8GB and thought it was a driver issue since I was running wasn't current. Upgrading the drivers helped, but not much. Glad to know it wasn't an AMD issue.
Thanks man, it works.
