One thing that bothers me about the plot.
Love the game. But one thing bothers me about the plot and motivation for your party and goal that happens from the get go.

The fact that the main objective is to literally murder Louis. Isn’t anyone bothered by that?

I always thought, sure the guy wants to be a dictator but do we have to murder him? For what? To put a boy prince on the throne? I’m personally much more inclined to let the competition to the throne happen fairly without trying to outright murder other candidates.

I find the idea that you as a teenage boy MC want to murder another person, especially a person that isn’t even a cartoon villain (Louis is ruthless but also has tons of good sides like being tolerant), to be morally abhorrent.

And throughout the plot and game, this bothered me. When you’re infiltrating his side and lying 24/7 it bothered me even more. JRPG MCs are supposed to be moral. This is a far cry from most final fantasy MCs which wouldn’t do something dastardly like that.

It's realistic in the sense that there really aren't good guys and bad guys in the real world. Just people with different opinions and goals who sometimes can't reconcile their differences in any other way but to kill each other.

Moral clarity is an illusion. At the end of the day it's what you want vs. what he wants, and both sides will lie, cheat and kill to get their way.

The first and foremost objective was to save the prince from the curse. Granted, at that point no one had an idea that Louis is not actually the culprit here, but they just took their chances given that time is of the essence.

Even then, after learning about king's magic protecting top candidates, they did try to settle for a non-violent method (stealing the curse's formula), which resulted in them finding Louis's scribbles and not an actual formula.

This competition was never fair to begin with. Throughout the story, you see first-hand just how many tricks one would resort to to gain an upper hand (looking at you, Forden)

No amount of good qualities can justify the "Might makes right" mindset. It's like Strohl is saying countless times throughout the game - he claims to fight for equality and protecting those who side with him, but will not even blink if half of his followers will perish because they are "weak". He is a hypocrite, even if you can understand his motivations.

Remember Senator Armstrong? Same thing - you can understand and even sympathize with his goals, but his methods of reaching said goals are just not it.

And Metaphor's MC is also "moral". He's just not a "goody two-shoes" kinda guy. Those are two different terms, mind you.

Also, ever heard of Demi-Fiend?

Interesting answers.
Without spoiling anything, I just finished the opera house and feel even worse now. I think it’s a classic case of pursuing goals without having adequate knowledge and doing something terrible in the process.

But I need to finish the game to fully judge! Honestly didn’t expect the twists.

The idea that killing is inherently immoral is a modern western belief. One that can only exist because people in the west are largely insulated from 'real life' and all the death that exists in the world. For 99.9% of human history this belief was not widespread.

The game does not represent the modern western world, so personally I dont see anything shocking with it. Especially since Louis is not a good person, not an innocent person and he will never give up on his ideals and thus opposition of the MC.

The point is no one is right or wrong here.

You are talking about a world that just leaves dead on the streets.
They hang people whenever they can and make a whole thing of it.
There is not one single place in all of Gran Trad aside from the slums that isn't just infuriatingly racist.

Nobility be feeding kids......to................

A 16 year old with a sword and a fairy is the least of the problems here.

Honestly someone watched beserk and gave us a what if Grif had horns and also an airship.
