Can you actually play this on a steam deck?
My question is less about the gameplay or if this is another awful DRM implementation where being offline prevents you from starting up the game on the Deck.

Resonance of Fate, Persona whatever, Yakuza, etc all have this problem.

While my expectations are low, figure I'd ask for confirmation before deciding to buy or blacklist this game.

It does work and so does even Like a dragon infinite wealth. It may be more of not switching the deck to airplane mode before going to a place with no data. Beat the majority of Persona 4 where there was no reception but the important thing to remember when you get back is the cloud sync date. Played Mass effect 2 and with the cloud sync, and EA client, and nearly 10 hour difference between the two syncing up.. It sucked so just a heads up.

I've never turned on airplane mode and always get that error, even if it's just after losing connection.

Even if it worked that does sound like a hassle, guess I'll just pass on this game.

Sounds like you're broke and looking for a reason not to buy it. Congratulations, you made one up. You'll be missing out. :gros_michel:

Hmmmm, that's as good as any paper thin reason I can delude myself into believing I guess.

From this day forth I am too broke for Sega games. There are no pennies to spare, but worry not, Lowlight will simp for you in my stead dear Sega. Where I am but a minnow, he will be your whale.

If you need me, that F-4E module on DCS is looking tasty.

Good deal. Have fun not playing the game. :COConetentacle:

Wailing and gnashing of teeth aside, you can check on protondb ahead of buying games in the future. Sometimes, you can even find instructions on how to get troublesome games working there:

I personally played and beat the entirety of Metaphor on a Linux setup. It was honestly one of the best running games I can recall, even going back to when I was using Windows.
Yeah, works really well, at least for me.

My issue is more being able to play offline, as most of the free time I have to play games usually involve me being out without a secure internet connection.

The steam deck is ideal from a portable platform standpoint, but I've had issues in the past with older Sega games. I guess they configured Denuvo to check in on startup, where a lack of internet means you can't play usually (unless I set the console into standby with the game running prior to going out).

But publishers can have different settings for every game. Hence my post asking.
there were a couple of zones where the framerate went somewhat low for me but i was able to play it fine on steam deck
it's playing in offline mode just fine, that's how i'm playing it most of the time

i use stable 30 fps setup, potentially you can frame limit it to 40 fps, but in towns there are will be dips

V-Sync - off
Resolution - 1200x800
Rendering Scale - 125%
Ambient Occlusion - Off
Texture Quality - High
Framerate Limit - Uncapped
Anti-Aliasing FXAA
Steam Deck frame limit - 30fps

this is my setup, don't forget to set rendering scale to 125% - this makes all the fonts/images less blurry

None of those games have this problem.

That said, the performance of this game, like most games, is ass on Steam Deck.

Plays fine for me. But if I'm not online, I get a notification popup and the game shuts down when trying to start it. All of these titles, save for Resonance of Fate which complains about achievements before also shutting down.
