Although, contrary to populat beliefs, Denuvo by itself is not the problem: if implemented by the devs properly, it's impact on perfomance is negligible.
I haven't heard of recent Atlus releases being bogged down by it, so chances are, they will do a proper job. Waiting for a couple of days after release might be a good idea, if you're not sure about performance on your hardware.
At least for me, using Special K completely solved the issues anyway.
Denuvo could be the thing that makes this go from enjoyable -> to not enjoyable for me if it hits performance. I'm going to wait a few days after release.
I've done countless performance mods on Denuvo protected games now. Both NieR: Automata and NieR: Replicant performed better before they removed Denuvo.
Denuvo's not without problems, mind you, especially on Steam Deck, where you can run out of activations just trying to get a flaky game like this one running (as each version of Proton you try eats into your 5 activation per-48 hour period limit), but performance isn't one of them.
Naturally, people blamed Denuvo and not the devs, who completely messed up the implementation, integrating it incorrectly into their games.
Has everything to do with the developer's own proprietary ♥♥♥♥♥♥♥♥. There are notable examples, yes, I've even worked on a few of the DRM bypasses in said notable examples. CAPCOM comes to mind immediately.
The only thing Denuvo does in their case is make it more difficult to find and remove the actual problem. Doesn't impact the performance of the problem code, the problem code can be removed without removing Denuvo, and that's because Denuvo's not the problem :)

Here, for example. Cracked version fixed the problem. Cracked version includes the stuff I fixed. CAPCOM later patched the game and fixed the performance of their stuff without removing Denuvo.
