Lag Spikes when Entering Areas
Does anyone else have this problem:

When walking around (Vatican so far, haven't gotten too far yet with the difficulty in playing with this issue), many doorways or what seem to be boundaries of hidden loading zones cause intense lag for a few seconds. This does not matter if I am on max settings or minimum settings, the same lag happens. The issue persists with both TAA and DLSS. I play on Full RT Supreme with HDR and DLSS Quality and get usually between 22 and 35 fps, but drop to under 1 fps when this happens. It happens very often, so it is difficult to play the game. I am running it on a 3440:1440 monitor.

My system specs:
3090 Ti (used to run the game)
3090 (not used for gaming here but is part of the system; 5 monitors are installed and even software disabling all but 1 does not help the issue)
128GB RAM
Ryzen 9 5900XT
Windows 10

The game has been installed on 2 different PCIE Gen4 NVME drives (a WD Black SN850X 4TB and Predator GM7000 4TB) and the issue is the same on both. When the lag spikes happen the in-game metrics say the CPU frame time is very high, but CPU and GPU usage both drop dramatically, and no cores are at 100% usage.

NVIDIA drivers 572.70, although the issue existed on the previous drivers (I cannot remember which but they were released shortly before 572.70).

4070s + 7800x3d + 566.45 Same issue. It's less talked about than the autosave stutter, but it's pretty universal I think. Unlike what DF said, traversal stutters do exist in this game.

Surprisingly, I don't actually get any autosave stutter, just this issue.

Then have you ever noticed the autosave icon shows up at the corner every time you get the frametime spikes?

No, it seems completely unrelated. The saving happens in different locations than where I get the lag spikes. For example, I get 2 in the tunnel to the boxing arena but there is no save zone there.

yea, I remember those spikes before the boxing arena. I don't think there's anything we can do about it.
I get a terrible stutter everytime it autosaves as well as when I pick up relics/photos/quest items - everytime. Its rather immersion breaking, and puts off from wanting to continue the game until its addressed.

I had the same problem, but now it's gone.

I did notice the game patching almost every day. This past weekend, it even downloaded some redistributable files.
What I did:

1- Downloaded the latest NVIDIA Frame Generation DLSS from this link https://www.techpowerup.com/download/nvidia-dlss-3-frame-generation-dll/ and replaced the existing file in the game folder.
2- Let the NVIDIA app optimize the game settings for me.
3- Restarted Windows.

DO restart windows.

After these steps, I no longer experience lag or long black screens when exiting the game.

I will now specify my hardware and game settings:

i9800K - 32GB RAM - SSD - nVidia 4090RTX - Windows 11 latest build - Latest nVidia game drivers + nVidia APP

Notes --> G-sync monitor with v-sync OFF
--> nvidia LOW latency MODE : ON

I think my issue is something else; no stuttering occurs for me in those situations. That sucks as well though.

Did you have the problem even with DLSS off? I have the issue with DLSS off, so I assumed that that wouldn't help. I had downloaded the drivers and tried that (only with DLSS, not framegen, because framegen doesn't work on 30 series cards), but it didn't work, but I did not restart in between. I will try again with a restart and report back.

To clarify, did you actually have the same problem or the similar problem with autosave stuttering? I get no stuttering during autosaves, only during loading zones, launching the games, and reloading a save/dying and going back to a checkpointed save. I assume you actually had the different issue since what I have seems unrelated to DLSS and I cannot run frame generation with my hardware.

Can you upload a vid with RTSS's framegraph showing no stutter during autosaves?

Hello there! Hope you’re doing well!

I didn’t try the game without DLSS and didn’t experience any issues with autosave.
I did have extraordinarily long loading times when launching, reloading, and exiting the game, as well as FPS drops to 5 for about five seconds when entering another room or approaching a door. However, those issues are now gone. I’ve kept playing without any problems at all—lucky me, I guess! :dentures:

So I'm not entirely sure what caused mine to become fixed, but now it is fixed as well, so I can play it normally! Very exciting. I think it might have to do with the GeForce Experience overlay, since I accidentally had my primary monitor switched for unrelated reasons when running the game so the overlay was on a different monitor. I'll check later if that was actually the issue.

Edit: Actually, I am not sure what really fixed it. The overlay and primary monitor I put back to normal and it still runs fine. I did change the dll files but I tested with the regular ones after and it was fine, so I really am not sure. At least I can play now. Thanks for the help though!

I do think it might have been one of the micro-updates.

Maybe this also helps: (ive copied and pasted my own comment done in another thread). This is valid when you change in-game settings (without hard resetting) or were using your PC with Graph Design programs, maybe with other demanding games as well.

-- Let me share what works for me 100% (no matter how alien it may seem). Restarting the game does not fix the stuttering or random latency issues in my case (I have 24GB of VRAM). Every time I switch to the desktop in the middle of the game to check an email—or if I close the game, use Photoshop or Premiere, and then try to continue playing after finishing my work—Indiana Jones starts experiencing random stuttering (not during autosaves, just randomly).

I insist: changing the window mode to fullscreen, turning RTX off and back on, or toggling frame generation on and off does not fix it. Neither does closing and reloading the game.

What DOES restore my FPS to a steady 110 with no issues is shutting down the PC and then also turning the power supply off and back on. Yes. Every time I do that—leaving everything completely powered down before booting up Windows 11—the game runs flawlessly. Give it a try.

IT'S UNIVERSAL because I have ryzen 5 9600X and rx7900gre and I´m having same issue as you. with fsr, with TAA, playing in supreme, super ultra or ultra settings
