Only 17 hours completionist?
For a full AAA price? That is extremely short game. Is that a joke?

Impossible or perhaps just with full walkthrough guide. Expect about 35 hours

I remember finishing Bioshock Infinite in 12 hours and still thoroughly enjoying the short game. I'm 7 hours in at the Zeppelin, I am savoring the game.

I’d rather have 17 quality hours than 60-100 hours of Ubislop grind

Yes, people like OP are why there is so much copy and paste massive worlds/.

Yeah, the map is massive in these open world games, yet they become tedious to navigate as missions far apart to get you to waste time, and most missions become samey.

Need more games like this. More linear and gets to point, pushing story forward.

Imagine looking at movie runtime and say it's too short and complain as it's only an 1 and half.

How about quality.

Depends on the movie and whether you're enjoying it or not, there are 90 minute films that left me feeling like i was sitting there for 3 hours and 2-3 hour films where i felt i'd only been watching for 90 mins and wanted to go straight into the sequel.

As for open world games, imho they started really sucking for two reasons, the introduction of markers for everything, and just pure product saturation. The WoW and Oblivion/Skyrim models of everything having to be marked and labelled killed the feeling you got from games like Morrowind, Gothic, etc, and playing ended up feeling like you were following an instruction manual, then Ubisoft decided to take it to such extreme levels that hating open world became the new thing until Elden Ring dropped.

Exactly. If history has taught as anything it’s that Quality should take precedence over quantity.
Ubisoft is burning right now because they made these ginormous games hardly anyone ever finished because all their games were too large and bloated, filled grindy collectibles and fetch quests.
Good games and movies have been ruined by not knowing when to quit while they are ahead. Leave the audience wanting more rather than abandoning the game because they grew bored.

Bioshock would have been better if it were a 25hr game instead of a 50hr game. When you confront Ryan - THAT should have been the true ending.

Peter Jackson’s Hobbit would have been better as one movie that stuck closer to the books.

That’s just to name two examples. When most gamers don’t even finish the game, why spend so much time and money making them so large?

Every game doesn’t need to be 100h long rpg which drags on too long.

Quality over quantity.

Took me over 40 hours to do get 100%. And there is DLC to come in near future. You can do faster with your 2nd run because you will know where to go, or what to look for. Also, guides are available, so you can just find solution if you can't solve it on your own.

This,,, I remember gametime was part of review score back in the PS2 era and plus. So games lost some marks due to "shotness".

And GTA popularity means more companies making this. Too many open world games feel like devs forced to by higher ups, especially sequels of non open world games that all of sudden become open world.

God of War, The Evil Within example..

Decades of gaming, I have never ever 100% an open world game, eventually fatigue kicks in.

Mafia 1 did it best, every mission moves story forward, no unnecessary bloat. One of the best gaming experience.

True, I feel , GTA sales reason in part.

Also, i remember the anti used game sales of PS3 era, when companies like EA complaining about used games killing industry. So one reason they make their games have so much bloat is to prevent finishing story in a week and trade game.

This concept has carried over even in this digital age unfortunately.

I was more worried that GPU/xbox said it was 9 hours just to beat the game without any extras but then they said there were 4 hours of cutscenes. Doesn’t sound like that is true thankfully.

Those people are speedrunning them (there are shortcuts that can be made when you know them), it took me almost 30 hours with some side missions.
HeideKnight Dec 10, 2024 @ 7:53am
I have played for 28 hours so far and just arrived in a big new area (the 3rd open world like area after Gizeh). There are many hidden secrets to be found if you look around, and I have not even completed every single previous side quests.

Side note: even a game as big as Elden Ring has mostly optional content. In order to finish this game you only have to defeat 12 bosses and the current speedrun for it is below 1 hour (around 50 minutes, actually).

It's the ADHD generation. What do you expect them to complain about.

I dont get where the short tag came from. Very beefy game, way bigger than RE games with similar quality.
