Why am I unable to lean around corners? PC
I have it bound to the default Z for left, and C for right but no matter what I do leaning around corners doesn't work. Funny the game manual in the menu system is telling me to hold the right mouse button while pressing leaning buttons that doesn't make any sense.

You can only lean if you press the right mouse button (to throw for example) or when you aim with your revolver.

Yeah, the leaning in this game is absolute trash, I don't get why they didn't used the system they already had with Wolfenstein which was perfect, one button to press and then you could lean freely with the mouse.

The new system is akward, you need a weapon to lean, you can't do it bare handed, and since you need to hold right click Indiana get into his weapon throw stance, I really don't get why they made the leaning system so clunky

Same lol. Last night I was showing my dad the game and when I was showing him some stealth, I tried peeking round corners but kept charging a punch instead. Went into settings to see if I was doing it right and I was and was confused until i realised you can only do it if you are holding something. That's just some weird and poor game design. 😵‍💫

Yeah, it's such an odd design choice. I spent around 10 minutes last night trying to figure out why I could not lean and only punch before realising you have to hold something.

It does occasionally work without holding anything for some reason but it's too unreliable to actually use else you just end up winding up a massive punch whilst creeping around.

It's a bizarre design decision for sure. Probably one of the worst "lean" implementations I've ever seen, if not THE worst.

Weird, works fine with a gamepad, left trigger, then click either right or left stick

You still have to be aiming a weapon to lean on gamepad, it's the same issue

No, I don't need to have anything in my hands and when I pull the left trigger it doesn't punch (unlike what people with m&k are saying)

No, you don't. Holding the left trigger is like a 'charge up' button, so when it's pressed while holding nothing, you can then lean. If you want to punch with your left hand, you only need to quickly tap the trigger.

So what is it now?

I can also only lean when holding something as well (keyboard/mouse plus PC). The game says in the in-game manuel you'd only need to hold the right mouse button and then tap the lean buttons. But Indy won't do it unless you're holding something. Same as claimed in this thread. And this article.

This is some of the weirdest designs ever. Thief got it right 25 years ago -- just two simple buttons, lean left/lean right, that's it.

you can not lean unless you are holding a weapon or torch.
Then you press LT to "aim", LS / RS to lean left / right.
If you press LT with empty hands you "charge up" and pressing LS / RS using actions but do not lean.

Thief 1 is also my favourite first person game of all time. If you haven't already I suggest checking out the fan made Thief games 'Shadows of the Metal Age' and 'The Black Parade' both are as good as Thief 1+2, The Black Parade can be a bit too hard though at times.
They solved this "problem" over 25 years ago, this topic shouldn't exist.
