Extreme Shadow/LOD Pop-In (AMD)
https://youtu.be/Td_9FM6r2Q8

This is a clip from the first 1-2 minutes of the game. I have the graphics cranked up to "Supreme", getting around 100 fps, but the LOD and shadow pop-in is incredibly bad, with shadows loading in 10 feet in front of me. Unacceptable for a AAA game in 2024 imo.

Is that what I have to deal with for the rest of the game because the 7900XTX lacks hardware raytracing? Or are the settings broken?

your GPU has "hardware" ray tracing. aka RT cores.

AMD made a mistake of removing ALU cores from their GPUs and yes it coming back and that means dual GPUs will be making a come back.

I checked the Digital Foundry console review and they're also critizising the shadow cascading issue which seems to be identical on both console and pc. I hope there will be some sort of fix or workaround for it. @ 14:58

It's because they shoved raytracing down our throats, they came up with these ugly compromises to be even able to maintain stable framerate. They shoot themselves in the foot with this raytracing BS. Many people can't play because of it and those who can have to deal with one of the worst pop-ins in recent gaming history. Good job MachineGames.

Curiously not experiencing this. My CPU is 8 years old, but I'm also on a 7900XTX. I wonder what setting is specifically causing this, because I'm guessing I don't have it turned on even though everything seems maxed. Driver is updated to 24.12.1.

What is your CPU and also approximately how many FPS's do you usually have ?

Everyone has pop-ins, it's how it's programmed, not an issue with CPU or GPU.

Try this LOD fix here. Set the value of "3" rather than "5" as 5 seems to give some glitching. https://www.pcguide.com/news/indiana-jones-and-the-great-circles-annoying-pop-in-problem-can-be-fixed-with-a-single-config-command/

I have a 7900XTX and I have the game maxed at Supreme also, im not seeing that issue, but im using Linux, im getting 100FPS average at 4k.

7950X3D CPU overclocked to 5.9ghz
64gigs of ram DDR5 6000 CAS 30
7900XTX stock overclocked
Games installed on a Gen5 M.2 SSD(Crucial T700)

I have a different issue, some weird shimmering around the NPC eyes.

Developers should eventually understand that allowing ultra-customized optimization options for users (changes via editing an .ini configuration file, for example) can only be a good thing for everyone... Those who have the means to push the graphical limits even further will be able to do so, and the FPS addicts too, by increasing pop-in for example... (well, there are always those who want both, but that's more of an intellectual limit unrelated to optimization). We would then find tons of presets on Nexus and everyone could more or less find what they are looking for.

At beginning, i was like "damn game is gorgeous".
After 20 min i was like "animations aren't great and shadows are ugly"

I have same problem on NVIDIA RTX 3070 8GB ,the console command it dosn't work. I try r_lodscale 2,3,4,5,-10 ...and still the shadows just pop.

Any solution?
Path Tracing gets rid of those shadows / light-thingies we see in both videos linked.
Of course you will drop a lot of FPS so lower the overall settings.
If those AMD's can use PT of course.
