Textures low at 1080p needs minimum 8GB video memory
For 4K and textures low you will need 10GB. Runs 60 fps 4K native with textures high on RTX 4070. Just check video memory usage while changing texture settings and resolution. It's interactive. :)

Since when is MachineGames doing console-first games? They don't and id Software doesn't either, id Tech is multi-platform, so there is probably no porting going on, they just build the game for different targets, engine takes care of the rest. PS5 build is probably done too, just delayed because MS exclusivity.

SInce everyone? 100 percent of developers did and have been for over a decade? They code the game on pc, test on devkits. They are unified architecture so programming for memory is completely different.

There are no pc-first developers left. There are no original pc games anymore, and there hasnt been in a long time. We used to get AAA PC-only games.

This game was easy to optimize for pc, because there isn't much going on...

Ill say it again: A 3060 beats: 3060 8gb, 3060ti, 3070, 3080 10gb, 4060, 4060 8gb all superior cards, the 3060ti-3080 are substantially faster cards. This is the only game ever to do something like this, ever.

Are you ready to spend 800 dollars just to *try* higher settings? Thats not pc gaming anymore.

Alex says to use the "medium" setting for texture pool size on 8GB graphics cards at 1080p though, not the "low" you put in the thread title. See the chart at 8:49 in the video.

He also said to reduce shadow and hair detail for 8 GB cards. Going textures low might be easier. And I don't have an 8 GB card. Never had. Jumped from 4 to 12 GB 3 years ago. Now upgraded from that RTX 3060 to 4070.

Not true. my 2060 has only 6 gb but I play fine. Now in Giza.

I didn't say you have a 8GB card. :\

In the video, underneath the chart it says:

8GB GPUs require medium shadows at all resolutions, hair set to low at 1440p.
It could be that setting textures to low might be less visually beneficial overall than adjusting shadows and hair quality down.

I did. It was playable. Not a hard, constant 5fps. Because it was programmed like a pc game and not a console port with optimization amputations.

Also ran the Kingdom Come Deliverance and Shadow of Mordor texture packs on a 970 at decent fps, both called for much more than the 4gb vram on that card. It had the power and bandwidth, like most of these cards do to make that minute jump in quality here, but "strangely" cant for the first time. Its play or powerpoint in a fifth of a single setting. Nothing else matters.

You keep saying it's a console port. But the lowest setting of rtgi on pc is far better than xbox x/s. Because it had to be downgraded for xbox. And on top of that, the flagship rendering technology behind the game is a pc exclusive only, Pathtracing.

Even more important, an xbox is now a pc. So making an xbox game would be the same as making a pc game. Which is why there isnt a single bad pc port coming from an xbox x/s. ZERO. The only port issues revolve around Playstation, because that is actually different from a pc. And last time I checked, the game was made for pc first.

Also, you are straight up lying. Kingdom come deliverance and shadow of Mordor texture packs didn't actually need more than 4gbs of vram. If you tried running them with 1gb of vram though, you would have low fps or even crashes/errors. Vram is a hard limit.

No other fix other than reducing resolutions and polycounts. Could be a valid argument. Like how they could have added an alternative to RTGI. I personally dont mind. Ive been wanting to play another path traced game. Already beat Cyberpunk 2077 and didn't like Alan wake 2.

This game is getting better all the time. There's no way I am getting a card with more than 8GB of memory. And there no way I would expect to play on low if I do upgrade my card. I think I am just going to forget this game tbh ....

These devs .... no idea lol
